Whats everyone's take on it?

It is relatively inexpensive and seems well made.

I would wait for the Charles Daly Defense G4. Should clock in at the same price or lower and looks better to me.

How does CD's warranty compare to Taurus'?

The new G4, if prototypes are any indication, should be a very nice pistol with all of the features you "need" and none of the bullshit fluff.

Production seems to be getting pushed back at every turn though, which is very unfortunate.

FWIW, I've been totally happy with my stainless PT1911.

It's a great shooter, and I don't have to worry too much about letting it get worn since it's not worth a fortune.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

My PT1911 has been exceptional, the best 500 bucks I have spent on a handgun.

That being said, my Tac Sol 2211 (22 lr conversion) will not fit it without major modification.

The Conversion dropped right on to my Para Ordnances but is not even close to fitting the PT1911.

I am at a cross road the CD is not much more than the PT1911, sooo...

But I really like the duo-tone pt-1911's

Look into Taurus' warranty on that gun, and google it for people's experiences of it. Then make sure CD can match that before laying down extra cash. Just my 2 cents.

I'm sure either choice will be a great .45 for someone who just wants a good shooter for a good price and isn't a brand snob.

Also, I was considering the tacsol kit for my PT1911; good to know that it might not be drop in.

I've had mine for a little while now, haven't have any function issues that I didn't create. Great gun for the money but if CD is any good both price and quality go for it.

What major modifications are involved? What specifically makes it different from other 1911's?

I had to take about a Thimble full of metal off the kit to get it to work.

There was not enough relief in the TAC SOL slide for the series 80 safety flag to raise and the hammer wouldn't drop.

After I got that sorted out, I had to move the hump on the bottom of the slide that actuates the disconnector foward.

An hour or so with a Dremel Tool got me where I needed to be.

I went slow and at a slow motor speed. The kit works like a champ now.

Like I said in the other post, the kit dropped right onto my Para Ordnance's.

It (the kit) is certainly frame dependent. Be prepared to do some work if you intend to put it on a Taurus.

THIS. That's what I've been hinting at. For me, that's a big deal. If/when I can afford a 1911, I'll probably go with the PT1911 for this reason.

The crack about the Taurus lifetime warranty is that it'll get fixed - sometime during your life.

I will say I haven't seen any bad Taurus autoloaders. Their revolvers though...

I have one and it ROCKS!!!!!!! It works great with a AAC 45 EVO too.....

I have one, have ran several hunderd rounds, maybe over a thousand now and have had zero issues with mine. I think it works as well as the springers I have in the safe anyday. A fun gun to shoot.

I think they were a great bang for the buck, but now they have been going up in price more and more.

I was fondling a PT 1911 with a Rail at Academy's about an hour ago, they're not bad.

Not a bad price either.

ETA: I do want to look at CD's first though, I dunno, I'm thinking about getting something for Ankle carry.

I've put about 200 rounds through my PT-1911, Shoots good, no problems and plenty accurate. I ran Wolf and Speer hardball and some Hornady +P Hollowpoints all of which functioned flawlessly and hit the mark every time. Great pistol especially for the price.
