small 22 host?

Post by ash06mh »

With a SS Sparrow on the way, I've started evaluating my host line-up. I already have a cz452 w/ hotrod9mm thread adapter, a 10/22 with threaded tacsol barrel, a mkIII 22/45 (soon to be shortened and threaded), and a henry H001 (still considering threading). I'd like to add a small pistol to the group.

I've looked into a taurus pt22, beretta 21a, walther p22, and a s&w 2213/2214. The beretta and taurus got crossed off because their sights aren't function with a can. I'm nervous about the walther due to quality issues we're all familiar with, but they're supposed to be darn quiet when suppressed. I owned a 2213 about a year ago and foolishly sold it off - before I considered purchasing a suppressor. It was decently accurate and quite reliable with a variety of ammo. Thread adapters for both the p22 and 2213/2214 are readily available. Anybody here with a suppressed 2213/2214 that can comment on its sound levels? Comparisons to the p22 would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Haha I see your point. Just get a suppressor long enough to touch your target, then you don't need sights?

walther p22 is a super turd, dont let anyone tell ya different as people will say anything to justify their purchases. Its a pride thing  If you can find an older Walther PPK or TPH now your talking. I thnk of those you listed the only one is the Beretta 21 Bobcat. Worried about the sights? dont. Just get a set of Crimson Trace laser grips  Thats how I do it with my Sparrow. The only complaint I have about the Bobcat is I wish the trigger was a tad lighter, but other than that its a great host and pretty darn accurate with laser grips.

I put about 12,000 rounds through my P22, maybe 4,000 with an Element attached.

Pros: ergonomic - good for kids too, very quiet, light, it will run perfectly with just about any ammo and run fine very dirty. I really enjoyed it.
Cons: extra back pressure was mushrooming the end of the rails on the slide - could have gone another several thousand suppressed - but the end was coming, there are so many parts on the P22 and it is hard to disassemble and clean, sights suck.

I would recommend it, but it is semi-disposable, which is what I did - dispose of it.

I also have a Beretta Neos with a 6 inch barrel. When Hi Desert Dog gets the 4 inch SS threaded barrels back in stock, I am going to get one and use that from here on out. It is well build and easy to disassemble and clean, has a great sight rail and adjustable sights.

If you can find a PPK 22lr or a knock off of one, you'll be a happy camper. Small enough (TPH is real small), all steel, good looks. Just a good all around pistol to suppress. Besides, it looks like a James Bond gun.

I'm not really into "semi-disposable" $300 guns.

Found a decent deal on a LNIB S&W 2214 and pulled the trigger....should look something like this with my Sparrow:

The Walther P-22 is handy in that it is ready to go as a host , and inexpensive . It is quiet and accurate . I sold mine , and had a PPK and TPH threaded . They are just as quiet , although there is a metallic sound when cycling . I use an SWR Warlock for them , and use the Spectre on bigger hosts ... A MAC Stinger is smaller , but its AOW ...

Its dragoon ... Phil , owner of Innovative Arms,LLC out of Elgin , SC did the TPH . He threaded the factory barrel , made an adapter to fit 1/2" x 28 , and supplied a thread-protector and wrench . He might have a video of it ... Phil and his wife Jenny do first-class work , including custom suppressors and refinishing . They are on Facebook ...

I shot a P22 with a can and it had alot of blowback right in my face. Not fun. with that being said I have two Browning Buckmarks with TS threaded barrels and love them.
Going a little more discrete here due to some of my opinions...

Yup, sure does. Thread adapters:

(these are also available in stainless for the 2213)

The Taurus 22PLY looks kinda neat for a tiny .22lr. I wonder how much of a PITA to thread it would be...

Seeming as the joint it so close to the barrel it will be a PITA to thread. If the barrel was extended any past the joint, even .25-.35 then it wouldn't be a problem at all.

As the owner of a 422 this picture of the 2214 gave me a shutter. I love my 422 with my Specter...the seller had a 2213 already threaded but I was lacking the funds to purchase both. Might need to start looking again.

I recently bought a 2214, I think it will work well. This one wasn't too expensive @ $370 for everything. Magazines are high dollar @ $25-30 each.

It has the ewk adapter and the little tool to take the barrel not off.

How about a NAA mini?
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

Hey everyone, I am new here. I have got the EWK adapter coming for a S&W model 61-3 Escort small auto. Will let everyone know how it works out with my AWC Titan III.

I don't beleive that anyone mentioned that the S & W 2213/2214 can use the
mags from the S & W 422 & 622 series, thus giving more rounds and a longer grip.

With a little effort you can even come up with a slide on piece that goes onto the
lower end of the longer magazine, similar to the extensions that are used on the
longer 1911 mags.
