This is why I'm against boozers with guns and cars, want to drink with the possibility of getting drunk, leave the pistol and car at home.

He should be charged with attempted murder. (read the article, its short)

Was he wearing his uniform or had his badge out? If he was Joe Citizen they would have emptied their guns into him.

An off-duty officer with the New York Police Department got drunk Tuesday night and fired his gun 13 times at a complete stranger who was stopped at a traffic light, police said.

Officer Brendan Cronin, 27, has been charged with assault in the first degree

Not attempted murder. Not aggravated assault. Not felony road rage. Not DUI. Not drunk and in posession of a firearm. Not discharging a firearm in an incorporated zone/city.

Officer Cronin fled the scene and was picked up by police in New Rochelle. He was almost shot himself during a standoff in which he allegedly pointed his gun at officers.

Not charged with evading/attempting to elude. Not charged with attempted murder of a police officer. Not charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

I'm against drunks with guns.
I'm also against the assumption that being in a bar (or any place that serves alcohol) makes one drunk.
I'm against the assumption that laws magically correct behavior.

Therefore, I'm for carrying concealed everywhere I go and not getting drunk in public.

It just struck me. This guy discharged his weapon 13 times and hit his target 6 times while blind drunk and in the dark. He is a monumentally better shot while drunk than the average NY cop is sober.
