That's interesting, as they are the two providers best at removing spam and stopping it from coming to their clients' inboxes. If the message had said "we don't allow gmail or yahoo because the people we sell your email addresses to don't want those because their spam can't get through." I would have believed that.

300blktalk lifted the gmail restriction for a while, and got assaulted with Nike spam in a weird language. They let us know they were lifting it, so we could all switch over to our primary emails addresses before things went haywire.

I have the opposite problem. I am registered with a personal gmail account, and would like to change to my company email....I just can't figure out how. Sorry, i cannot brain today. I has the dumb.

gmail is not banned because I don't like it. It is banned because when it is not banned, we get up to 120 porn spams per day. They should charge $1 to register an account and require a credit card. That would solve the problem of spammers registering hundreds of accounts at a time.

Free aol email works, by the way, if you need some way to register.

Too bad that you can't charge spammers. It'd be a lucrative revenue stream. Just add a Junk SubForum like the "Site Announcements/General."

All new member posts get routed there for 30 days to verify if they're legit. Only 5 verifies from longstanding members would get them through the firewall. And even then a Moderator would have final sign-off.

Just a thought. Maybe it would increase Foreign traffic. We need all the new ideas that others have to offer. Sometimes we have to comb through a pile of refuse before panning that single flake of gold.

In PHBB you can set it so that the first X number of posts from a use require moderator approval before they show up to normal users. It stops users from seeing any spam but requires the mods to go through all new posts.

There are plenty of places to get a free email account and if you have internet, you can get email from them.

It is only for the users first X posts and it makes the spam easy to find since it will all be in the mod queue, assuming someone past X post does not suddenly start spamming.
