How do you adjust the side-view mirrors on your car - which method?

I adjust them to see backward, and I can see at least the edge of the back of my own car.

I adjust them way outward. I can't see the back of my own car at all. Not even close to that. I would have to shift my head way to the left or right in order to see part of my own car.

I am not asking you to vote for what is better, just what you have been doing in the past.

Head shifter but not by much. All I have to do is tilt my head a little to catch a glimpse of the door handle.

They're outward but not "way outward", I can still use them to back into the garage or back up a trailer with just a little tilt of the head.

This is the only adjustment that allows me to catch a glimpse of at least some part of a vehicle no matter where it in my blind spot without having to turn my head and look over my shoulder.

I can just catch the edge of my car in the mirror.

Same as Doubloon and Blog, I use the tip of my car that I can see as a Reference point to judge angles and distance.

I can't see my door handle, but the outer tip of the bumper, when I shift my head a few inches to the side.

Try adjusting them to form a seamless transition from the left mirror to the center to the right mirror. It is possible. It is amazing once you see objects move from one to the other to the other behind you.

Once you do it, a shoulder check is not even needed to change lanes, which is good because when you turn your head to look over your shoulder, you risk a front collision.

The side/rear of my car takes up about 10% of the side mirror.
Add those little 1-1/2" blindspot mirrors, with dbl stick tape, and you'll never have to turn your head again.

Now if people will start paying attention to me half as much as I do them......

Paying attention??? How can they. There are texts to send, eyeliner to apply, blush to blend in, news papers to read, calls to make... how can you expect them to pay attention to anything out side their car.

I actually have little wide-angle mirrors on one of my cars. I have never looked at them because they are on only one of my cars, and not universal. This other method is great and works on all cars and trucks.

I get that seamless experience with my mirror adjustment set wide.

The article you linked appears to advocate exactly what some of us described "fig.1" is desirable, no portion of the driver's car is visible in the mirror and "fig. 2" is traditional and undesirable where a portion of the driver's car is visible. Same thing for better "fig. 4" and traditional, undesirable "fig. 5".

"fig. 1" can see the red car in the blind spot, "fig. 2" cannot see the red car in the blind spot. Move the green car up and you get the same effect.

In short, if you can see any portion of the car directly behind you in any of your side mirrors then those side mirrors are misaligned.

I may be misunderstanding what you're saying.

I am saying adjust your side mirrors so they provide a continuous view with your rear-view mirror with minimal overlap, so they just pick up where your rear-view mirror leaves off.

The way most people adjust them, including me up until yesterday, results in a lot of overlap with the rear-view mirror, and so does not so as much of the side blind spots as possible.

Yeah, awesome...until some cork soaker gets up your ass with their super-awesome LED stadium lighting high beams on as well as their super-awesome LED stadium lighting fog lights, even though there is no fog here. Ever.

I leave for work at 4:20 am and get home from my second job around 7pm. I adjust my mirrors out. Too many douche nozzles out there without a clue.
