So much for private property in D.C......

Post by MicroGuy »

Getting a ticket for parking in your own drive way?? Or what you THOUGHT was YOUR driveway. You do own it sort of, but it's treated as "public space", and YOU are responsible for it's care and maintenance.

The congresswoman has it right, DC is doing nothing but extorting money from property owners.

Oh, if you want to avoid the tickets, you can "lease" your own land back from yourself.

Wow, just wow...

You own the land but it's considered public space, yet you can lease it from the District.

They are really looking for a fight aren't they, I believe they want people to snap...

I was thinking this was going to be about blocking the sidewalk, but that's seriously fucked up. Especially the part about "leasing" the property from the city. There is a rule here that you can't have an unregistered car parked in your driveway and I think that's fucked up too.

What legitimate reason could they possibly have to prohibit you from parking in your driveway when said reason can be remedied with money? That rules out just about any reason I can think of, from outward appearance to safety.

...and the fact that this rule has been around for a long time and is equally enforced does not mean it isn't wrong and it isn't extortion.

What a greedy bunch they are. Another reason to move out of D.C.

Agreed!! I hope more people start challenging this type of s--t in court and coming out on top. I am not up on this type of city councel stuff so I would be curious if there were any public hearings on this before it was put into effect. if so than these folks deserve what they got, if not than I think I would be voting out any counsel members who passed such an ordinance.

DC residents deserve it for choosing to live there.

I'd almost be willing to bet that the property line bullshit was in place when the property was first developed. My property stops 10 feet short of the street, but I'm responsible for maintaining that chunk of property.

I agree also. We actually do need somebody, some "state" showing how bad it can get, for the others. I thought kalifornia was going to be it, but maybe DC has it covered.

That's been done. Remember the guy that basically built a home made tank?? A bull dozer covered with plate steel and gun ports, basically destroyed a small town before he was killed.

I think this is just something thats been on the books forever but now that most municipalities are bleeding red ink they've found another revenue stream that was always there. You know...just enforcing the laws that are already on the books.

Nothing better to have than the KILLDOZER when the city pushes too far.
There is an 11 to 17 minute response time to a 911 call. You can either choose to put effective rounds on target, neutralizing the threat, or try to find a telephone. The person who killed you while you were dialing 911 will have enough time to cook a frozen pizza before the "Badged Historians" show up to draw the chalk line.

You can still buy a handgun in CA without a License, though it's a neutered one, you can still own it, so technically, CA is more conservative than both DC and NY.
