Tattoo Artist Sues City For $220M
Michael Mineo claims the NYPD violated his civil rights when he was allegedly sodomized with a police baton on a Brooklyn subway platform.
Michael Mineo, a Brooklyn resident, claims his civil rights -- among other things -- were violated on a subway platform in Prospect Park in October, the New York Daily News reported.
"We are filing a formal lawsuit. It is another step towards justice," Mineo's lawyer Stephen Jackson told The News.
Officer Richard Kern was charged with assaulting Mineo, and two other officers have been accused of trying to cover the incident up. The criminal trial is set to begin this fall. The officers claim they're innocent, according to their lawyers.
Mineo was chased down by NYPD officers after they allegedly saw him smoking pot. Mineo claims he was restrained while his pants were pulled down and he was then sodomized by a police baton and the antenna of a police radio.
He was given a ticket for disorderly conduct and released. Mineo immediately sought medical attention and gave several TV interviews.
Cops told Mineo he'd be charged with a felony if he reported the incident, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes.
