Released into the wild? My ass. To cover his butt, He said it might have rabies. That means that the squirrel was tested for rabies, which will kill it.

Did the officer make it home safely that night? That's all that really matters, right?
I can't do it as well as Arevalo.

Thinking more about this. If I did it, it would be a felony in my state. Cruelty to an animal is a felony. I'd lose my gun ownership rights and face thousands of dollars in fines. The legal courses of action for me would be to either use a hav-a-hart trap (which is what they should have done at the school); or to shoot it with a pellet gun. You can shoot an animal dead, but you can't cause him undue pain. That's just the way the law is here. Shooting it wouldn't likely be legal where they were, being a gun free school zone and all.
It's not uncommon when a wild animal is fed by people for the animal to get agressive with people. That's a likely scenario in this instance. Kids feed the squirrel, it demands more and starts chasing the food sources around the playground. "Gimme more PB&J, ya bastards" When the 'adults' became aware that the animal was chasing the kids the smart course of action is to 1: trap and remove the animal. Then 2: assemble the crumb crunchers and tell them all that feeding wild animals is a bad thing. Simple. How hard was that? You may note that never in my two step process did I pepper spray a fucking baby squirrel. Because that would be stupid, and you'd have to be a dick to do it.
Stupid dicks piss me off.

I am amazed that some student had a tape-based camera recording system.

Yes, there was this Turkey in Brookline MA who walked up and down Main street for years. It got more and more aggressive - certainly because people fed it. That was a death sentence. The police decided to kill it. Smart move people-who-fed-it.

The tactical retreat was especially impressive.
