first can just ordered! aka Spectre
just ordered my first can and decided to go with the Spectre. almost went with the yhm mite, but wanted more performance for the expense. will be going on a 16" cz american for now, but will see use on others later. I have the thread attachment to change from 1/2x20 to 1/2x28, but was wondering if i have to check alignment as the rifle was threaded from the factory. any general info, recommendations, or hints you guys have would be appreciated for this newby!

You should ALWAYS check the alignment.

Though it is certainly not the best way to check, I have been able to use my naked eye to see 2 misalignment issues caused by bad threading jobs on 2 of my guns.workinman01 wrote:what is the best way to check alignment?
Mount the suppressor then hold the chamber end of your barrel toward a dim light. Look though the suppressor and down the bore. Try varying the distance from your eye to the endcap of the suppressor.
There are better ways to verify proper threading, but this is a quick way to check for alignment every time you put a can on a gun.

You should look from the chamber down the barrel. You should not see suppressor.

How will the hornet damage this suppressor if the hornet's max pressure is around 43K and the 5.7 (which this is rated for as well) is around 50K and the bullet diameter is the same? I was planning on using it for a hornet when I got mine and would like clarification.mpallett wrote:No.DemonLlama wrote:Quick Spectre question.
Are they safe to use with .22 Hornet?
22 lr / 22 WMR / 5.7 / .17 HMR
22 Hornet will damage the suppressor.

It isn't just pressure. It is pressure AND volume of gas. Trust me when I say that the Hornet will damage the Spectre.CaseyJ wrote:How will the hornet damage this suppressor if the hornet's max pressure is around 43K and the 5.7 (which this is rated for as well) is around 50K and the bullet diameter is the same? remember boys and girls -
blast pressure means nothing without an associated duration. without duration, there is no impulse.
you can't rely on pressure numbers alone when analyzing a component's response to a blast load.
for example-
let's say you have a 40,000 psi pressure spike with instantaneous rise-time. (it happens really quickly, and the load doesn't "ramp-up").
let's say it then decays, gradually, over a period of 4 ms (that's 4 milliseconds).
That's an impulse of 80,000 psi-ms.
now, let's say you have a 20,000 psi pressure spike, same load shape, but the duration is 10 ms. You now have an impulse of 100,000 psi-ms.
25% increase in impulse with a pressure that is HALF as high.
See the problem?
And, to complicate things, you STILL don't know which load case is worse, in general. Is your component pressure sensitive? Or, is it impulse sensitive?

Now that there is just mean... Might could hook you up with a reamer, and tell you where to get dies, but I am kid of partial to the gun. It is already threaded 1/2X28. Come on down and bring a spare Spectre and I will provide ammo for testing...

Dropped the cash on the Spectre on Thursday. My first .22 silencer (second can in collection). I am very excited about this purchase.
