WTK Best bolt action .22 for the Spectre ?

Post by Sgt 6402 »

What is the best .22 bolt action rifle to get for the Spectre ?

I am looking for a factory rifle that does not need a whole done to it but threading and optics..........

Thanks in advance

I dig the savage MK II's with accutriggers myself. The double-extractors make me happy. You'll probably get a lot of recommendations for the CZ American, which is an excellent choice, just pricier.

Yup, CZ or Savage.

I should ad that you can get the American threaded, but it's in 1.2x20, I think, with a 16" barrel. No matter, as you can also buy an adapter to get it to 1/2x28. The Savage you'll have to have threaded, and the barrel is longer, if that matters to you.

The Ruger 77/22 is a great rifle. The problem with it is that it is insanely over-priced, the stock trigger pull sucks and the action is a little loud (the bolt is just loud when you work it)

I found one used for a great price, so I go in cheap, but other than that, I'd recommend the CZ or a Savage. I've shot several CZ Americans and they have all been great rifles. I really wanted the Ruger though because it shares the same magazines as the 10/22.

I use a Marlin 880 SQ ( squirrel gun ) , which is a heavy barrel , no sights , plastic stock . I had it threaded ... I also have a Savage bolt-action pistol - I think it is designed for metallic silhouette shooting ...

CZ 452 American 16" IMHO. Quiet as a mouse fart with subsonics...

With the CZ 452 American 16" that is factory threaded 1/2"-20 you can get a spare 1/2"-20 base from SWR instead of one of the 1/2"-20 to 1/2"-28 adapters from someone else. The fewer parts, the better.

You'll have to check with SWR. If it's possible, they'll do it because they're awesome, but I suspect the bases would be considered silencer parts and they would not be allowed to supply more than one by... well, I'd say by law, but it's really the ATF being arbitrarily nuts in their 'interpretations' of the law.
