I recently acquired this Mac10 and noticed quite a bit of rust on it on my initial cleaning. The pics are below:







I was thinking of having it refinished to stop the damage and make her pretty again. Any suggestions who could do this job? What finish: just reparkerize or nitride or something different? This gun is also an investment so I am not looking for a pink hello kitty cerakote. Let me know what you think.

Sam at practical solution could take the work, I hear he is very good with macs, you'll have to call him. C&S metal works out of st charles Missouri also work and repark macs. You could call them, I hear their work is top notch, just a little slow.

I'd soak the rusty areas with Breakfree CLP and just brush them out.
Enjoy it the way it is and just plan to do a re-finish sometime later in it's life.
My MAC's are bullet hoses and get the mostly abused at the range and
I would think your's would be similarly enjoyed too.

Clp works great on rust I would be more concerned about the crack that is forming.

I noticed that too when taking the pics, I was hoping that it was nothing to worry about... maybe a little repair work and a refinish.

As people have said, if there was no crack, I'd clean it up and use it. With the crack starting, I'd get it repaired and then refinished if need be.

I want you to get it refinished by Robar in NP3+, just so I can see some pictures and range report!

Rust needs to be stopped. Clp doesn't stop corrosion.

Get a corrosion stopper like corrosion x.

There are many places that can re park it. Sam and metal werks could reweld that crack and re park it. The crack doesn't look to be on a critical area though.


You can use a rust remover but it will leave the rusted spot bare- hence the need to re park. If u derust you can oil it up w clp or similar and if u keep it oiled it won't re rust. Until u can have it re parked or coated.

Or you could dip it in lye or soda and use electrical source to just remove the rust oxidation.

(I restored an 1873 coffee mill this way- do NOT get the polarization backwards or u will rust the Mac)

Oh if u use electrolysis, test a piece of rusted metal it works. Takes a few hours.
