ATF has no record of my Form 1

Post by oilfieldtrash76 »

ATF received my Form 1 paperwork on April 7th, cashed the check on May 9th. As of July 29th they are not showing anything in their system. Told me to call back and speak to a specialist tomorrow, he was gone for the day today. I have a scan of my bank statement showing the cashed check. Any advice would be helpful.

I've recently had a similar experience. Sent my form off, waited 2 months, and noticed they never cashed my check. I called them and they just said "Oh we must have lost it, just send another one". Apparently this happens quite often, as the guy I talked to didn't seem too surprised by it. If i were you I would be sure to let them know that they already have your money, and just send in another form if they request it without the check.

On an SBR form 1 I sent in back in 11, they lost my check and then denied my F1 due to non-payment (let that sink in for a sec).
Since they denied the form 1 instead of putting it in a 'hold' status, when they got around to telling me about it, too late to fix the problem
and send them a new check, back to the end of the waiting line.

Cancel old lost check - $45
New for 1's (2) $20 passport photos, half a day off from work to get pictures, drop off to Sheriff's Dept and pick up when signed.
Mail off packet again (complete minus fingerprint cards, including compliance letter) $2.50
Packet back to end of the line so I lost 2 months of waiting as well. This pissed me off to no end.

Not real sure that sending the packets to Atlanta for payment processing first is a fix, or just another cog for them to screw up now.
My last three form 4/1's have made it no problems...

I had 2 different Forms a couple years ago that NEVER showed up in the system until they were approved.

Went from in the system and approved the same day.

If they took the funds then they got the paperwork. The ATF's record for lost forms is lower than I have ever seen in the rest of society, not just .gov agencies.

This happened to a buddy of mine. He submitted his Form 1 last october and we were looking for it to come back these last few weeks, never came, so he called ATF. To no surprise they said they had no record of it, despite having cashed the check, and there was nothing that could be done. Needless to say he was peeved and ready to chalk it up as a loss and sell the rifle that he had yet to chop. I get a text message from him 2 nights ago with a picture of the approved Form 1 that he just found in his mailbox. So who knows what the hell happened.

I spoke to the specialist the other day, a guy named Scott. He seemed to have access to more info then the ones who answer the phone and found a pending form 1 in my name. The serial number was wrong (started with a B instead of an N) I know I checked the form multiple times and had it right. Happens that B is right next to N on the keyboard. Anyway, He asked me if I was positive of the serial number and said that they would take care of it and they would contact me if I needed to do anything else. I do feel better knowing whats going on but dread the long wait. I think I'll e-file another lower now that the system is back up, got friends getting forms back in 35-40 days.
