so i was in the service and love shooting FA, but from a tactical or ops position i believe 3 rd burst most effective. #1 round count. #2 target accusation, #3 less spray

for fun and recreation FA is fun but expensive.

I never saw the allure of 3RB, not saying there is any at all. The military went to 3RB due to wasted ammo and accuracy from FA. It obviously not fool proof since there are M4s with FA trigger groups.

In my home state, you can not have select-fire so FA would be my option. Since your paying the same for either, I'd go FA. Just master your trigger control and you'll be all set.

What platform did you have in mind?

I believe that all FA is a lot more fun when someone else (like Uncle Sam) is paying for the ammo

Burst set ups are often clockwork sorts of mechanisms ... if you let off the trigger before the burst is finished the gun stops and the next trigger pull completes the interrupted sequence. Is a bit odd.

Personally I prefer to have the the option of controlling the length of burst myself.

I read that the military (which branch I forget) is dropping the burst in favor of full auto. I seams that semi-auto trigger pull varies for every 1/3 rotation of the burst cam and marksmanship scores suffer as a result.

ETA - It's the Army, found this paragraph with a little searching: "The decision to convert the service’s 500,000 M4s into M4A1s by 2020 will give soldiers features such as a heavier barrel, an ambidextrous selector switch and a full-auto trigger. The Army’s decision to dump the current three-round burst trigger will give shooters a more consistent trigger pull and lead to better accuracy, weapons officials maintain."

Burst is ultra-stupid. Use semi-auto for all actual use (including actual military use), and full auto for recreational use.

on most centerfire I prefer full auto option - on ultra fast fire weapons (22LR conversions that run 2000 rpm for example) I prefer the burst option unless just want the feel good fun.

In my daydreams I see myself only buying FA machine guns. It's a huge waste of $$ to be stuck with only burst for recreation.

Some do, some dont. I believe the Sig rifles reset regardless of if you let the burst finish or not.

I honestly love burst, though I feel that 2 round burst is more useful, especially if the rate of fire is somewhere around or over 1000rpm, The AN-94, UMP .45 and Kriss Vector all do this quite well.

Burst was intended to keep soldiers from wasting ammo, even if you teach someone to use proper trigger control and only shoot in short salvos, once they get on the battlefield and the adrenaline starts flowing all bets go out the window. Burst is meant to force them to keep the ammo expenditure down and reasonable.

I have a FNC MG with the three shot burst. On the FNC it resets when you release the trigger so you will not get caught short on follow up bursts.

Three shot burst is great when you have someone that wants to shoot yore MG, but has limited to no experience shooting full auto.

My AC556 has semi, burst, and full auto settings. It has the ratchet system so if you are off the trigger quick enough for two rounds, you only get one shot the next pull. I use it for FA beginners and with the .22 kit. It's pretty easy to get two shots in full auto so that's how I normally have it set. I believe it's around 750 rpm in .223 but jumps to about 1200 rpm with the .22 conversion in it. A .30 round mag empties pretty quick at that rate so I normally stick in burst mode. If it were an M16 where your only choice was semi and burst, I'd be swapping out trigger groups!
