I am starting to look at chopping my 10/22 into an SBR. I thought a 10 inch barrel would give me good velocity and not look weired with an Element II, but I notices several comms saying a "short" 22lr barrel turns all bulk into sub-sonic.
So, Q?? What is short?? 10, 6, 4 inch?
Not looking for a 500yd tack driver,, squirrels & other critters at under 100yds, FastFire III, nice range rifle and training aid for G-Kids..
Thanks

4"- 4.5" will keep most bulk pack subsonic, anything longer won't.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

my stock charger doesnt, I'm going to SBR mine down the road maybe and was thinking about cutting the barrel length because my stocker isn't threaded so I'm watching this one too.

4.5" will keep almost all bulk pack ammo subsonic. I haven't found any that wasn't.
Re: Ruger 10/22 into an SBR Charger, barrel length?
Guaranteed subsonic at 4.5" max. Anything longer up to about 5" will largely depend on temperatures and sea level elevation.

That has been my experience as well.RJT wrote:4"- 4.5" will keep most bulk pack subsonic, anything longer won't.
Also, my 10/22 would not run reliably with a 4" barrel and no suppressor. If you plan to only shoot suppressed, it shouldn't be an issue. A factory barrel cut to 4.5" seems to work well for me, keeping bulk pack stuff subsonic, and cycling with or without a can installed.
