Can I use the lower of a currently owned complete rifle for a SBR?

My plan is to register a lower of a complete rifle I currently own (AR-15) to get my trust paperwork in, hopefully while I still can, then buy a lower to go with my currently owned complete rifle at a later date. Our local sheriff is OK with suppressors but I don't know about SBRs, I haven't heard one way or the other.

First question: Once the lower is registered, do I have to convert it to a SBR? Can I wait a reasonable amount of time? Obviously before I put a short barrel on it I'd get the lower engraved, etc.

Second question: My previously registered SBR lower was engraved 5.56. Since that was what it was marked, I put that in the "caliber, gauge, size" box. My current complete rifle that I want to use is a Stag Arms 5.56. I don't know if it matters or not but I was wanting this build to be a 300 AAC Blackout or a .458 SOCOM. My question is does it matter what goes in this box? If my lower with SN is engraved 5.56 and I put .30 cal in box 4c will ATF kick it out?

You can use your currently owned lower. You can make it into what ever caliber, length you want.

As for the time to actually make it into an SBR after your form 1. I don't know that. Also if you can register your 5.56 as a 300BO I don't know that either.

Once your SBR has been approved and built, you can change the barrel length, overall length, caliber, and pretty much anything else (except receiver) whenever you want. My understanding is that you must initially build the SBR just as your Form 1 is filled out, but you can change it later. The ATF requests that you notify them of the changes but there is no requirement to notify.

If you do change the caliber, it must be clearly marked on the receiver, barrel, or frame of the rifle. Personally, I mark the upper with the caliber and everything else on the lower. The only marking that absolutely must be on the receiver is the serial number; everything else can be on the barrel, frame, or slide.

I believe the ATF requests you notify them of any "permanent" changes to the original configuration and if you want to remove it from registration.

May the short barrel on an SBR or SBS be replaced with a long barrel for hunting or other purposes, with the intent of replacing the short barrel?

Yes, and you will not be required to again register the firearm before replacing the short barrel. ATF recommends written notification to the NFA Branch when a firearm’s configuration is permanently changed or removed from the purview of the NFA.

I would check local and state laws.
In CT, your trust had to be created and your rifle transferred (to you) before 4/4/13, to be able to transfer this type of firearm into it.
