CMMG 4.5 sbr question

Post by cyclone72 »

I have the lower(sbr pending) and .22 CMMG upper and I know ill need to get a dedicated .22lr barrel and bolt but for the life of me I cant figure out what else I need, the barrel collar? Anything Im missing?

I have the 8-9'' rail, basically I have everything ready cept the stamp so I may wait on the actual barrel. I have backordered a bolt and barrel kit but I see so many other options if I were to buy the barrel and bolt separately its confusigating.

22 lr barrel + bolt ARC, Alpha?Bravo?+ barrel collar = sbr?

I have seen ARC bolts plus A,B,C,E and Q bolts. Help me out if you could.

Thanks

Have you looked into this from CMMG?

https://www.cmmginc.com/shop/barrel-and ... 40cm-22lr/

Works with a standard upper, and barrel nuts. All you have to do is add mags.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I went with Taccom parts.

http://www.taccom3g.com/ulw-4--barrel.html

http://www.taccom3g.com/ar-22lr-bolt-assembly.html

Cheaper than the CMMG stuff, and in stock.

I've got it on a pistol lower now, 'till the SBR stamp comes in. I also used the CMMG charging handle and a 9mm upper with the brass deflector.

This looks exactly like the one I got with my Spikes Tactical upper, about 8yrs ago. Except for the black buffer piece.
Fantastic kit. Eats everything. Cant remember a single failure. I use BlackDog mags.

I was cheap before and ordered the S&W M&P15/22 thinking it would save me money and it would be what I wanted, now I'm wishing I went with a regular lower and a 22 upper because I would only need 1 stamp for my regular AR lower, not one for a regular AR and one for a 22. let us know how things work for whichever you choose.

You are a smart man. I offer the same advice to those, I know, who are in the same market.
You already own an AR, why wouldn't you just get an upper?
For one, it's not plastic.
Two, you can't use it on larger calibers.
Three, saves precious space in the safe I would normally reserve for something that isn't a 22. Like a Barrett
And four, save the $200 and put it towards a Suppressor stamp.

My biggest problem is that I had problems with CMMG rimfire adapters in the past and never had one that ran right and I had friends who had trouble with them also. As soon as the 15/22 came out and everyone ran them and they ran well, I even shot one at the SHOT show and it was flawless even when I tried to make it jam by letting it rest away from my shoulder. it ran so damn well. when it came out I bought a regular one (Non-Performance center) and put a 2 stage rock river trigger in it for the rimfire steel matches I was shooting. I liked the fact that the barrel diameter was small enough to keep me in the stock class (We had barrel diameter restrictions for the matches) and I liked having the bigger mags that worked (Loved hearing the 10/22 guys cuss their butler creek mags as they jammed) and it seemed like the better choice. I dont care about the buying another lower "problem" because I have tons of them laying around (Had a guy pay me for some ammo I sold him in lowers) I started using them to prop open the safe and even cut one away as a trigger test platform for triggerjobs. I do care about making an SBR now and refuse to make a plastic SBR. I have used Army paintball guns that felt more realistic than the 15/22 does. I hate that they did that, now I'm having problems with trigger pins on my 15/22 and need to buy the anti rotation pins for it so they dont slide out. I want a short SBR in 22 and may go this route afterall because I'm waiting for a stamp for a lower currently.

My CMMG sucked until I took it apart, rounded the edges with a file and then polished the rails on a buffing wheel. The can get to good, but mine sure didn't show up that way.

Still waiting. They charged my account but I haven't heard anything from them, even after I contacted them and just inquired about it. Oh well, Ill just wait a bit more. I'm used to it. I ordered it on the 2nd. guess I'm too used to Amazon prime

I know what you mean, I waited for 5 painful days for something to get here from texas and kept thinking...When is that damn thing going to get here... I'm ordering a 9mm lower (Glock mags) I'm going small with it and will put the paperwork in for it next month and I'm thinking a 5" or so barrel for it with a PDW stock... I wish they made a larger caliber piston upper so I can fold the stock. A 10mm 6" AR would be nice for vehicle work and a 50AE would be better but I will settle for the 9mm for now.

A CZ Scorpion Evo is also in my future but an AR is ideal because during hunting season I travel alot and find myself 100 miles from civilization sometimes, A rifle is too big and a Shotgun, is Ideal but too loud for use in a vehicle ( I have been through the offensive driving course and the PSD course in the military so I have worked around vehicles alot.) I prefer a longer barrel to penetrate engine compartments from odd angles because I prefer to explain why I disabled the suspect vehicle instead of explaining a deadly force review that ended in loss of life. I say that because the scorpion is 9mm only but AR's have different calibers as part of their versatility.

UPDATE:

I called and left a message after two failed attempts by the internet. He called back within 20 minutes. Turns out he is a pretty decent guy in my book. Does barrels and bolts in batches and said he let this run go a little too much but he was shipping 4" to 12'' inch barrels and bolts today. Is pretty much a one man show now that his son, who handles shipping, is off at college. I gather that his business help him put his son through college. Almost has a family business feel to it. I wont be able to put it together till June or July so a few more days wont hurt.

I got it a few days after posting my last post and I can say that I am not disappointed one bit. Worth the wait. Very robust unit. I got the barrel with a collar and the bolt. Barrel is in a house far away. All I have to do is wait.
