How much hassle is a SBR?

How much hassle is having an SBR? Seems like it's not too bad if you keep the rifle within your state of residence, but, a hassle to cross state lines. Are their other downsides to having an SBR?

How much of a hassle depends on whether or not you live in or travel to an occupied territory.

It's not too much of a hassle. You have to fill out and get approved a 5320.20 for crossing state lines. You can have them dated for 365 days. I only take mine out of state once a year, but say you love in one state and shoot in another, you can submit a form with dates of Jan 1-Dec 31 and be good. You have to put an address in it where you are traveling to, but you should be legal from here to there. Now, if you're going from Ohio to Missourri and go through Alabama, you might get in trouble but...

As far as staying in state, just keep a copy of your F1 or F4 with you and you are good to go. I make a 1/4 size copy and keep it rolled up in the pistol grip on most of mine. Never been hassled by 'the man' any more than having a can on a gun! Makes suppressed rifles much more handy! My 8.5" 300 blk with my SAS can omit is shorter than a 16" carbine!

Just keep a pistol lower and throw your upper on your pistol and keep your sbr at home

They may not know how many you have but let's face it they know you have some so there is very little difference when they are tearing apart your house looking for them besides I have enough of them that don't have stamps

To the OP it is most certainly worth the "hassle"

SBR is definitely worth the hassle. As far as the 5320, doesn't cost anything, other than the postage stamp, and doesn't take too long for the approval. I sent off my last one on 03/02/16 and it was approved on 03/18/16, got it back in the mail on 03/26/16.

No hassle at all. In fact, all of my lowers are now stamped, because, why not? I don't even own anything longer than 14.5 inches. I'm building a 5.5 9mm and currently have a 8.5 300Blk, a 10.5 223 wylde and a 14.5 223 wylde

Why does the NFA Tracker have Efile Form 4s showing submitted and stamped in the last year?
I thought no Efile for form 4.
Oh and there a lot of SBRs listed there, they are popular.

If I had to guess I'd say user error. The database requires accurate data entry to be worth while. I also don't understand why people post corrections with approvals occurring within 24 to 72 hours. Just lame, that info helps no one. I had a form 1 approved in 72 hours last year. It was a resubmit related to an error on my first application. I didn't bother login onto NFA tracker to brag about it.
