Hi all, i am new here and also to the full auto world, i have thinking of purchase my first full auto rifle and i would appreciate step to step guidance how to go about buying a full auto rifle. there's some much information on the internet, it could be confusing sometimes. Please i will appreciate every input.

There's essentially three ways to buy.

1 buy from a private seller in state
2 buy from a private seller out of state
3 buy from an FFL

Option 1 requires only 1 tax stamp, it also requires only 1 waiting peroid. The downside is that you have to put a lot of trust in the seller to hold up their side of the bargain. Get a signed recipiet for sure.

Option 2 is the worst way, but probably most guns for sale are this way. It requires two tax stamps and 3 waiting peroids. The seller must file a form 4 to transfer the gun to a dealer. The dealer then files a form 3 to transfer to another dealer in your state (this wait is generally really short). Then your dealer files a form 4 to transfer the gun to you. Still have to put trust in the seller to get the gun to the dealer.

Option 3 is easiest. It requires 2 waits with 1 tax stamp. First the dealer/seller must file a form 3 to transfer the gun to a local dealer (short wait). Then your dealer files a form 4 to transfer to you.

I believe the out of state seller can form 4 directly to an FFL/SOT in your state, as long as the receiving FFL/SOT is OK with it. Would eliminate one tax free transfer and wait time (form 3).

Correct. That's also allowed.

It can be easier to have the seller transfer the gun to a dealer local to him though. It only adds a few days or weeks to the wait. I was more comfortable having my machinegun transferred from seller > dealer > dealer > me

And yes, there is way too much disinformation regarding title 2 weapons on the net. It's better than it used to be, but not by much.

You are going to need an instate dealer anyway, my advise is to track down a good local dealer and it will make your life much easier.

A good dealer will help walk you through most of the details, especially when dealing with a MG.
