I shot my 11.5 SBR yesterday with the Troy "Claymore" muzzle brake. Pics here: viewtopic.php?p=560130#560130
Similar to the Noveske Flaming Pig - it seemed to funnel the loud report on the SBR away from the shooter and downrange. However, shooting XM193 near dusk, the flash was very noticeable through the Aimpoint and would likely disturb the shooter's vision in darker environments. Too bad, because I otherwise liked it.
What are you guys running for muzzle attachments on your SBR's WITHOUT cans? What do you like/dislike. Thx.

I haven't got it yet, but I'm planning on using PWS' CQB Comp. It's designed to throw the blast forward, and then secondary to that is to work as a flash suppressor.

How is that thing not considered a single-baffled can? interesting.Mageever wrote:I haven't got it yet, but I'm planning on using PWS' CQB Comp. It's designed to throw the blast forward, and then secondary to that is to work as a flash suppressor.

Yeah, it's basically a grandfathered design. PWS submitted a different version initially that was less baffle-like and the ATF told them it would be a silencer. They then changed to this cone design and it was approved. Go figure.dtom29 wrote:Same sort of design as the "beer can" 4 piece flash hider/booster for a short barreled AK/krinkov.
That's what it is, a single baffled can....but it does nothing to silence the rifle.
That's exactly what Noveske did. He took a Bulgarian beer can kinkov booster and made a thread adapter for it to stick it on an AR. A little piggie engraving later and he's heralded as some sort of super genius.Mageever wrote:Yeah, it's basically a grandfathered design. I ran it for about 6 months on my 11.5. Sold it. I didn't like the weight and I felt the sound redirection and $ wasn't worth the benefit. A1 all the way.chp5 wrote:yep - have you shot the Flaming Pig on an SBR? If so, what did you think?
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

I have the YHM Phantom 5C2 on both a 11.5" and 16" barrel. Flash suppression is very good and they are fairly inexpensive.
EDIT: This weekend I attended a training class and ran both uppers. During the day sessions there was no flash from either barrel length. I ran only the 11.5" upper during the night session. I shot 230 rds of both Wolf poly and XM193. There really was nothing in the way of actual flash; but there was a pretty good circular shaped spray of flaming embers (burning powder). A bit like taking a disc grinding wheel to steel. This was clearly visible through the optic and in my periphial vision. I should have shot the 16" barrel to see if it did the same, but I bet not.
