Tolerate "lockdown" by non-LEOs at a mall?

Yes. I'd do whatever they tell me.

No. I'm responsible for my safety and wouldn't trust non-LEOs.

I always considered the thing to do in a situation like that is to call 911, blurt out whatever comes to mind that needs to be said... and then throw the cell phone down without hanging it up.

Some interesting comments here about how a situation "changes" when you dial 911.

If this is your plan I recommend carrying a burner phone for 911 calls. I have a few in the drawer that aren't active anymore, not entirely a bad idea.

On my first droid I actually changed the "camera" button and re-mapped it to launch a voice recorder. Sadly, no more camera button on the new droid.

Imagine if this guy didn't have some sort of recording.....

(Smack) Walked right into that one.

Now you've done it. Two of the other voices in my head are now in a pitched battle using psych dimes, over whether the US was conspiratorially complicit in the attack on Pearl.

A staff worker at Panera Bread Co. was standing by the front door, not letting people in or out.
"Lockdown" of adults by non-law enforcement personnel at a mall? I don't think I could be confined by a mall employee trying to keep me caged up like that. If I want out, I would use any means available to get out, rather than being forced to huddle up like sheep, waiting for the slaughter to come to us.
It's called kidnapping and/or unlawful imprisonment. As I understand the law I can use all reasonable force to resist this, including lethal force.

Clackamas man, armed, confronts mall shooter
http://www.kgw.com/news/Clackamas-man-a ... 93571.html
"He was working on his rifle," said Meli. "He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side."

The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.

"As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them," he said.

Meli took cover inside a nearby store. He never pulled the trigger. He stands by that decision.

"I'm not beating myself up cause I didn't shoot him," said Meli. "I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself.

I would like to think I could rise to the call of bold courageous action and not fall into the sheep/coward/flee/pee my pants response category.

I trust that I will likely never have to find out the hard way.
well stated i could not have stated it better. thank you

I would leave if I wanted to, but not sure I would mind being locked down in the store as I would not be afraid and feel the need to leave.
