Mayor Bloomberg and Gabrielle Giffords set targets on pro-gun senators

Bloomberg offered harsh rhetoric for senators who voted against gun background checks, vowing that his group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, would try to defeat them in upcoming elections. Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly said their PAC, Americans for Responsible Solutions, will also target senators opposed to the bill.

I seem to recall someone using the word "target" previously in a public statement and it not going over well.

Sedition is a harsh term. Perhaps it's the right one though.

It seems to me this strategy has a high probability to backfire. Targeting the democrats from states that are pro-gun may help republican candidates more than anyone else.
