The Governor-elect says he'll sign open carry legislation. Now it is up to the people of Texas to talk to their State legislators and get them to pass a good bill. It's possible that if the people don't pressure their legislators, that this issue could get lost in the flurry of all the other business being done by the Texas legislature.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

It'll be real interesting to see how Open Carry Tarrant County tries to sabotage this in the coming months... 
I'd love to see this pass. It has never seemed right to me that we don't have OC in Texas.

Folks, the Texas legislature only meets every two years. For the last two sessions (four years now) we have had the needed votes to pass it, and a governor that would sign it. BUT, the problem is getting it to the floor for a vote with such limited time. Last session there was an intentional slow down caused by the democrats over a squabble on unrelated legislation. But it resulted in several bills not being voted on. It has been frustration over this process that has lead to the open carry folks in Texas. The open carrying of long guns in Texas is an expression of frustration with our legislators failing to get handgun open carry passed.
