Re: Peachtree City, GA Police Chief "Accidentally" Shoots Sleeping Wife

Where is the person shot at,” the dispatcher asked.
In the back,” the chief responded.
Seconds later she asks for clarification.
“She was shot in the back and the front?” the operator asked.
Yes. Let’s get ‘em (EMTs) here,” William McCollom said.
She was shot twice accidentally?” the operator said.
Yes.”
Who shot her?”
Me,” the chief said.
The operator asked him how the shooting happened.
“The gun was in the bed. I went to move it. I put it to the side and it went off,” William McCollom said.
Moments later, however, William McCollom said “everybody was asleep” when it happened.

After reading this it sounds like he was asleep just prior to the inncident.
Upon arriving in the bedroom he attempted to move the pistol from the bed to the nightstand.
He only said that he shot the Victim in the Back. Only the Comm Op said that there were 2 discharges. The Chief only partially heard what 911 said because he was attempting to seek medical help for the Victim and perhaps tending to her himself, once requesting Med Asst.

The Jouralist/Editor claimed that the Chief's Story changed, but it seems clear that he stated what happened, and the Comm Op mistakenly altered his Statement and added info not in Evidence.
My biggest ?s are why the pistol was ever in bed instead of secured, and at which points in Time the pistol left his control/was this his service pistol or perhaps even his wife's person weapon?
