Olive Gardens restaurants explain gun policy (good result)

A couple of days ago, at an Olive Garden restaurant in Kansas City, a police officer was refused service because: gun.

An outpouring of e-mails to the president of Olive Gardens restaurants took place and he has clarified the gun policy for all Olive Garden restaurants. He communicated the following company policy to all Olive Garden restaurants.

1. He personally called the police officer and apologized.

2. The policy is that all police and all other first responders are always welcome at all Olive Gardens.

3. All Olive Gardens will abide by all local laws concerning guns and concealed carry (no 'gun ban' signs at their restaurants).
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

I sometimes wonder how that could play out if it went to its logical end. If the uniformed cop refused to leave, would the employees call ... the cops? Or do they refuse to call the cops since the uniforms that show up also have guns?

I'm very confused.

And I'm also being something of a twit, too, since this is ONE employee who either is insatiably stupid, or has a personal vendetta against police and has used a deliberate misunderstanding of the policy to pursue that vendetta.

The most tragic aspect of this story isn't the asshatery associated with what occurred, it's that the employee in question probably got fired, but when the new prospective employer calls back to Olive Garden for verification purposes, Olive Garden -- and any other past employee -- won't say, "S/he was a dirtbag, a pain-in-the-arse, and has brought national controversy and shame to such an extent that the CEO himself had to issue an apology." Instead, some new employer is going to have this P.O.S. foisted off onto them without speaking a shred of truth out of every employer's fear of lawsuit.

THAT system is retarded. There are ways around it, but no one is interested in using them. So they pass the dirt-bags around until prison, homelessness, workers'-comp, or unemployment benefits takes the P.O.S. out of the job-pool.

They could document the incident (via cellphone) and then register a complaint w Dept, State Regulatory Agency, State Attorney's Ofc., and FBI.

Sadly, we've had issues where some of OUR Dptys demand free food, drinks, etc. and have even assaulted employees who refuse to give free food. However... some Dpt Unions can "negotiate" no/little disciplinary action. But then again, sometimes the Ofr gets arrested when arriving for work and booked while in uniform.

It's hard to predict which way the ball will bounce.

Well.... I asked a dumb question. The answers aren't satisfying, but they're not surprising.
