CT proposes to quadruple pistol permit fees

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has proposed more than quadrupling state pistol permit fees in his budget, a move that drew sharp criticism from the state's largest gun rights group.

The $70 fee paid to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection for a five-year permit renewal would rise to $300. New permit applicants would see their costs increase from $140 to $370.

"When you consider just six years ago a five-year renewal was only $35, in six years we've seen a near tenfold increase," said Scott Wilson, president of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League.

The increase in pistol permit fees is expected to bring in an additional $9 million a year.
Raising 5-year pistol permit fees from $70 to $300 in CT is quite a large increase, it will certainly reduce permits among the less financially well off. Beleagured CT gunowners should fight this gun permit increase.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

Sad, but true. This state is a mess.
Recently, the hatcheries were closed as well as most of the fish & game entities. They were sustained by permit fees. Now that they are closed there are less Trout, as nothing is stocked by the state anymore, and they have imposed a Trout stamp. Yup, they stopped stocking the Trout yet charge more to fish them. And where is the permit money going, now that the hatcheries and other programs closed???

The pistol permit should definitely be fought. I'm sure CCDL is on it. I believe there is plenty of precedence, from other cases, to prove this is discriminatory and unjust. At least I hope so :?

Occupied territory.

If things go well these next four years we may yet be able to free them.

Woah, easy there. CT is still my home.

Here's a vid of our Legislators openly opposing this increase.
After-all, Malloy is only targeting pistol permits, for increased fees.
Definitely discriminatory.

Does this mean you have to pony up money every three years to own a handgun? I can't see this being enforceable. If the fee is fo a CCW permit, maybe. Still an outrage.

Originally (just a couple years ago) the fee was $35, for application and renewal (for 5yrs)
The fee was increased to $70. They justified this by saying that the fee for background checks went up, but I don't recall them doing a background when I went to renew. They just look at your IDs and print out a new copy. Like what the DMV does for a driver's license, but this only costs about $10-20.

Now, they want to raise it by $300, for application and renewal. The justification is that........well, there isn't one.
There was never a report on the impact to the agency or resources. If there's that much influx, and an increase in workload, why aren't they proposing to hire more workers? They sure had the numbers of how much more $$ the state would get, but nothing more. The initial reason was that the cost increase is in-line with surrounding states. Maine and VT, I believe, are free and NH only charges $10. Mass is like $100 and NY a bit more. They said it was on par for the state of NY, but listed the cost for NYC, not NYS.

If you watch the video, I linked, there is some more good info there.
I will point out that both Republicans and Democrats are speaking out about this. Solely due to the fact that Pistol Permits are the only licenses being affected.

It's mainly due to the mismanagement of funds and the state trying to make up for it. Also, Dan Malloy is a huge Obama fanboy and is sucking from the tit of the anti-gun agenda.
