NRA sues Florida over gun bill just signed

One hour after the FL Guv signed the new gun-control bill, NRA lawyers filed a lawsuit in Federal Court against the portion prohibiting 18-20 year-olds in Florida from being able to legally purchase a gun. The complaint states that the new FL law violates the 14th Amendment Equal Protection Clause, and also violates the 2nd Amendment. I expect the NRA lawyers to ask for a stay of the law while the matter is adjudicated. It's unclear from the article above, whether they filed a lawsuit in both State and Federal courts.
The suit focuses on the firearm ban on most people younger than 21 and the penalties for violating the new law. Anyone under 21 who buys a firearm in violation of the ban faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

The ban doesn't apply to law enforcement or correctional officers, or any member of the military.

The suit says that at 18, law-abiding citizens are considered adults for most purposes protected by the Constitution, and are eligible to serve in the military.

The suit notes that Florida law already limits access to firearms for people who are considered unsafe or mentally unstable, and federal law already exist to "significantly constrain the right of adult citizens under the age of 21 to purchase firearms."

It goes on to say that Florida's new ban "broadens these preexisting limits" by extending the ban to rifles and shotguns, and prohibiting adults under 21 from buy firearms from any source, not just federally licensed dealers.

"The effect of Florida's age-based ban is to impose a significant, unequal and impermissible burden on the right to keep and bear arms of a class of millions of law-abiding 18-to-21 year-old adult citizens."
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.
