Michael Moore's bodyguard arrested

A Mauser handgun? Is that a typical fake news/ dumb ass journalist thing, or did this guy try to intentionally carry an antique in his carry on bag? I bet deBecker fires him personally.

I don't understand why Moore needs a gun around. Can't he just call 911?

A bodyguard who has protected outspoken moviemaker and gun-control advocate Michael Moore was arrested at Kennedy International Airport for allegedly carrying a pistol without a New York license, authorities said Thursday.

Patrick Burk, 34, faced arraignment on a felony charge of criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors did not have his attorney’s name.

Burk was questioned by police Wednesday night after he notified a United Airlines ticket agent that he wanted to carry his weapon — unloaded and in a bag — on a flight to Los Angeles, said Port Authority spokesman Tony Ciavolella.

The bodyguard, who works for the California-based security firm Gavin de Becker & Associates, told police he had traveled to New York with Moore earlier this month, Ciavolella said. He produced licenses for his Mauser handgun from California and Florida, but not New York, which prompted his arrest.

Moore spokesman Mark Benoit said the filmmaker “wasn’t there and had nothing do with this.”

Well I don't know about actually legitimate sources, but here are a few news-ish agencies reporting on the story. Apparently not Moore's personal bodyguard, though he's been assigned to Moore on occasion. Oh yeah, and note the dates on all three of these news stories covering this exact event: it was in 2005. Somebody's dredging up a 13 year old minor news item and trying to turn it into fresh propaganda. And golly, look at how many Second Amendment Supporting gun related websites are running with the fake news 2018 timestamp. Who is pulling who's leg here?

Cute, but there's no need to look outside your borders on this one. Simple case of click bait, regurgitating an ancient non-story to make a guy they don't like look bad, even though it had nothing to do with Moore. Sticking a fresh calendar date on the story is one of the simplest lies imaginable, yet apparently effective for some who don't bother to dig beyond the first layer.

Back to what's really important here..... the Mauser handgun.

There were some Mauser branded hand guns (I don't remember who made them, but it was a modern design) fairly recently. I handled a .45 that IIRC wasn't bad looking overall maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Nothing to write home about. Not a remake of a classic Mauser design and not actually made by Mauser. Maybe that was what the guy was carrying, unless he had read Fairbairn's account of Coolie bad guys scattering when they see someone whip out a Box Cannon in sheer terror of the dreaded 30 Mauser bullet from hell. Or maybe he's really into steampunk.
