Marco Rubio introduces Fed Red-Flag law Bill

The pro-gun side has always had a problem with Dems opposing plus a sprinkling of Republicans in Congress--2019 example. This is the "Let one of your nutty left-wing relatives disarm you without due process on a whim" laws.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) along with support from Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), and Sen. Angus King (I-ME) plans to reintroduce a bill that would encourage more states to enact red flag laws.

“This idea has already proven successful in states like Florida, and it is my hope that this bill will get all the other states in the country to do the same thing,” Rubio said in a prepared statement.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

Police don't need a red flag law to take your gun if you show signs of violence in public while armed.

This bill is built on the omnibus crime control and safe streets act of 1968 and theoretically calls for a court ruling based on a petition from family, a household member or law enforcement to take somebody's gun rights. Just a suggestion though, what actually gets passed is up to the states.

There are 5 occupied territories that already allow judges to suspend gun rights based on testimony from god knows who. A vestige of due process similar to the 'red flag' questions on a Form 4473 which already include semi-arbitrary criteria like violence misdemeanors, 'drug' use, 'addiction', mental deficiency and dishonorable discharge.

What this bill brings to the table is a federal cash reward to states who turn on their citizens by encouraging family to rat on family. Next time liberal vegan cousin Sally gets in an argument with hunter uncle Dave over his inhumane refusal to put a tofu turkey on the table at thanksgiving all she has to do is fill out a petition describing his passion for guns and all the violence he's committed over the years and Dave gets to spend the day in front of a flasher in a black robe. But still 'due process' in theory.

Even if this thing passes it still has to be implemented at the state level and it's not like the clueless parents of the last few kindergarten Rambos would have done anything to stop their precious little darlings from playing duck hunt on a playground.

At last count, there are more than a dozen new pieces of paper milling their way through Texas legislation to inflict some form of red flag regulation on its citizens. It's been tried before unsuccessfully but we'll see what 2019 brings.
