Political Courage, they should get an award

The Oregon legislature is heavily Democrat in both the OR State Senate and House, and they have a far-left Governor. In other words, they can ram through crazy gun control laws over the objections of the people. This term the Dems in the Oregon legislature crafted a huge gun-control package (SB-978) and were seemingly all set to impose even more gun limitations.

The Oregon Republican minority decided that since the Dems ignored their pleas and amendments, that they would stage a walkout of the legislature throughout the end of the legislative session (June 30, 2019), and thus denying the Dems a necessary "Quorum" that is required for the final vote before sending the 'gun-control package from Hell' to the Guv for signature. :D

I nominate the Oregon Senate GOP senators for a Political Courage award for figuring out a way that they can save the people of Oregon from a slew of crazy gun-control laws this year.

Note: the Dem Guv is threatening to use the Oregon State police to round up and arrest these OR senators and drag them back to the Statehouse so they have a quorum and can pass the gun-control package.

https://www.nraila.org/articles/2019062 ... 19-session

As a follow-up to the political drama in Oregon, Oregon Senate Republicans returned to the Statehouse on Saturday to wrap up essential tasks necessary to adjourn for the year sine die--and also close the door to a possible 'special session'.
Today, the Oregon Senate Minority Caucus will return to the Capitol to finish the 2019 legislative session and adjourn Sine Die by June 30th to officially defeat omnibus gun control Senate Bill 978. Returning to the Capitol to finish essential tasks prior to the session ending helps prevent the convening of a special session, where anti-gun legislators have threatened to bring SB 978 back into consideration. By returning and avoiding a special session, SB 978 will be dead for the year upon adjournment.

Senate Bill 978 would:

Legalize age discrimination for firearm dealers to allow them to refuse service to young adults for no reason other than being under the age of 21.
Impose a one-size-fits-all government solution for firearm storage and require them to be made unavailable for self-defense.
Further victimize gun owners who have suffered a loss or theft of their property with criminal penalties if they fail to follow certain requirements when reporting them, including holding the gun owner strictly liable for the future illegal acts committed by criminals using the stolen firearm.
End the centuries old practice of home manufacturing firearms for lawful, personal use.
Allow local governments to create “gun-free zones” in public buildings, colleges, and airports where law-abiding citizens are disarmed and left defenseless against criminals who ignore such arbitrary boundaries.
Increase the fee to apply for a Concealed Handgun License.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

The Oregon Republican Senators successfully stopped SB-978 for 2019 with their planned absence preventing the majority Dems from having a quorum, which was necessary to bring the Bill to a floor vote (which would have passed). The Oregon legislature has adjourned Sine Die for 2019.

The people of Oregon dodged a major gun control bullet.
