Proposed VA Bill--outlaw suppressors in VA

HB961 filed in Virginia would make it a felony to own/possess a suppressor in VA after a 6 month period giving "subjects" (in the mind of Democrat controllers) in the commonwealth a chance to dispose of them or move them to another State.
A bill put forward by Delegate Mark Levine (D) would make it a felony to own legally purchased firearm suppressors in Virginia.

Suppressors fall under the purview of the National Firearms Act of 1934, which means the sale of the devices is overseen by various federal agencies...

Under Levine’s bill, H.B.961, Virginians who have undergone the legal process to acquire a suppressor would be labeled felons after the passage of a six-month grace period in which suppressors can be transferred to persons out-of-state who are allowed to own them, destroyed or rendered inoperable, or surrendered to a “state or local law enforcement agency.”

On January 9, 2020, Breitbart News reported that Levine’s bill also makes it a felony for Virginians to possess legally purchased AR-15s and “high-capacity” magazines. Virginians who own AR-15s — and other rifles that Democrats describe as “assault weapons” — would be able to apply to the state police for an ownership license, which would allow them to keep their guns and avoid the felony charge.

Where does this stand, given all the people that came out for the 2A protest ?

I ride dirt bikes, and the main complaint is the noise from clowns who run LOUD open exhaust.

Why would anyone want to stop law abiding, tax paying citizens from essentially running a muffler ?

update about HB961...

https://www.nraila.org/articles/2020020 ... -committee
February 7th is the last hearing of the House Public Safety Committee before the crossover deadline. It is the last chance for Bloomberg’s anti-gun cronies to get their coveted House Bill 961 out of committee and rushing to Governor Northam’s desk. The anti-gun majority has already demonstrated their disdain for law-abiding citizens by passing numerous bills to cast your right of self-defense aside, but a comprehensive gun ban remains Bloomberg’s #1 demand.
so, HB961 is still in play in committee.

further update, Dems jammed through passage today in committee despite the pro-gun people there to testify against it.

In a deliberate insult to the hundreds of Second Amendment supporters who took time out of their busy schedules to get to Richmond before 8AM today, Bloomberg’s bought and paid for House Public Safety Committee granted them a total of just five minutes to speak out against House Bill 961, the crown jewel of the Northam-Bloomberg gun ban agenda. They quickly rubber stamped this comprehensive gun ban with a vote of 12-9 after limited committee debate, before clearing the public out of the room so they can continue rubber stamping other gun control bills. Clearly, they don’t want to face the citizens whose rights they are taking.

VA House of Delegates passed HB961 on Tuesday by 51-48 despite fierce opposition from Republican Delegates and by gunowners throughout VA--Bill sent on to the VA Senate. If signed into law, Virginia will become an anti-gun State imposed by a slight majoritarian advantage. Low voter turnout by pro-gun people in the last election allowed this to tragedy to happen (and slightly higher turnout by anti-gun voters).

On February 11th, the House of Delegates voted 51-48 to pass House Bill 961 following fierce opposition from citizens. Michael Bloomberg’s bought and paid for lawmakers have moved HB 961 very quickly. Despite this, Second Amendment supporters have mobilized quickly at each step. HB 961 will now move to the Senate.

House Bill 961, as amended, is a comprehensive ban on many commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, suppressors, and standard capacity magazines. Though the committee amended the bill to allow citizens to keep currently owned firearms and suppressors, confiscation is undoubtedly still the end goal. There is no option for citizens to keep their lawfully acquired magazines with capacities greater than twelve rounds, forcing millions of Virginians to dispose of their property, become a criminal, or surrender them to the government.
NOTE: The Dems threw a very small bone by amending the original Bill to allow current owners of suppressors to retain them instead of giving them 6 months from passage to dispose of them under threat of a felony. However, if passed VA residents will not be able to buy or sell or import a suppressor (nor pass on currently owned suppressors to heirs).

It appears that all the protests in Virginia by pro-gun people plus the Sanctuary Counties movement has persuaded the Virginia Senate to put off HB961 to the 2021 Legislative session. Today the Senate committee voted 10-5 to delay consideration of the Bill until 2021.

The “assault weapons” ban that passed the Democrat-controlled Virginia House of Delegates last week was shelved Monday morning by the Senate’s Judiciary Committee.

WAVY reports the committee voted 10-5 to shift the legislation–HB 961–to the 2021 legislation session.

The shift was supported by Republicans and Sens. John Edwards (D-Roanoke), Creigh Deeds (D-Charlottesville), Scott Surovell (D-Fairfax) and Chap Petersen (D-Fairfax).
