I think it would make more "cents" just to do away with pennies altogether.

...and nickels, and dimes. A quarter is still worth slightly less than what a penny was worth in 1910.
RIP Dave. You will be missed.

It's about time, Didn't they try something like this in the 70s and it got shot down?
I used the evil Quicken Will maker..... And my form 4 was approved

Even steel is too expensive to mint. Pennies will be too expensive to make, and they'll just get thrown out anyway.... Changing them from one metal to another won't matter much when zinc is under $2k per ton and steel is about $400 per ton. Besides, the metal, once you're already using cheap metal, isn't the expensive part. Minting and transporting is the expensive part.
Isn't this whole thing sort of like how the half penny was removed? Even it was worth more than $0.10 in today's money when it was removed from circulation.

I still like dimes, they're light and the make good marks on the golf course.PTK wrote:Hush wrote:I think it would make more "cents" just to do away with pennies altogether.

Pennies and nickels should definitely be scrapped.
Along with the loss of value, morals and guts you can throw in common sense.PTK wrote:...

Come to think of it I haven't carried change in years, I usually give it to the wife or grand kids.
As I can't get out like I use to so I don't carry a wallet any more either, I did carry one the other day when I went for a Dr.'s appt. and it felt strange when I sat down and felt the wallet.

Uh, how about quit making any at all, so the ones we have saved up will actually be worth what they should.
