This is crazy. One of the bystanders that caught one of the cops bullets was 8 feet away from the cop. If I, as a CHL holder, did this I'd be up on charges - and rightfully so. Why are the cops being given a free pass? Are they not responsible for every bullet that leaves their gun?

As a CHL holder, If you see two cops shooting a bunch of innocent bystanders, you should?

A. Duck and run if possible.
B. Stand proud and take it like a man.
C. Figure they are terrorists, and defend yourself.
D. Video it on your cellphone, so you sue the PD.
E. Damned if I know. (wasn't there)

Don't know if you would be charged criminally if you tried to stop an active shooter, and neither should they. I don't think the department will get a pass from civil liability.

Was this really an 'active shooter'? It looks more like a disgruntled former employee shooting his boss. The multiple victims weren't the shooter's victims, they were shot by the police. It was legitamate for the police to stop him with gunfire and his fault that innocent people were all around when he chose to commit his crime. That doesn't make him the perpetrator of a mass shooting. He shot one victim, and the police shot nine more.

The department won't get a pass from civil liability, but the individuals who shot bystanders will. They will probably get a medal for valor.

The NYPD should re evaluate the "NYPD trigger" they have on their Glocks. Something like 12lbs. They have that to reduce the likelyhood of unintentional shooting by police, but it makes their accuracy suck. Sometimes bad accuracy means missing the target, sometimes it means hitting nine bystanders downtown.

It is not clear to me that a NY trigger makes a Glock harder to shoot accurately.

security video of shooting:

IMO one of those officers should never be allowed to carry a firearm in public again.
