"It might even be covered it Sykes&Fairbian’s seminal 1942 work “Shooting to Live”."

No it isn't, they knew better.

The first instance I recall of seeing someone shoot a pistol sideways was in an old Chuck Norris movie set in Hong Kong IIRC.

I also have heard that guys who shot M1 Carbines on full auto used to hold them sideways because it allowed the recoil to help with strafing instead of pulling straight up. I don't know the physics behind it but it was told to me buy a Chosin few survivor so I don't doubt a GD thing he said. Which reminds me, if you ever get a chance to meet a Korean War vet and hear their stories, take it.

Somebody mentioned that (in reference to WWII) in the comments after the article.

The TTAG comments on this one are generally pretty amusing. A lot of people are way, way over-thinking this -- and giving these types of people far too much credit. The Occam's Razor vote goes to "sheer laziness" as the explanation. What is the most comfortable way to hold a few pounds at full extension? Next!

I've received training direction that suggested canting my handgun relative moving along a wall to my immediate right (ejection port side). The supposed intention is to prevent ejected shells from bouncing off the wall back into the chamber and interfering with the slide going back into battery.

I suppose maybe some high level "gangsta" trainer, got the same training.

As a note, my SSNcN says he "knew" a VietNam era HUEY pilot that used a M1 carbine laid sideways, flat on his lap. Said he would come into a hot LZ and run off 2-3 mags at the -3 foot down level, with the stick between his knees. Apparently this was when the collective still had the twist throttle, and he could open his door. Beats me. Makes a good story, true or not.

Now every time I see you write about the SSNcN, I want a beer.

Needs camo, shaggier beard, American beer (preferably PBR, Busch will do) and a "stars and bars" hanging on the wall.

Same here. (it was only a slight cant ~10-15degrees). The instructor stated that it often helps to counter the lean when "moving off of the x".

My results:
Canting the pistol causes my hits to be off.
Straight up and down; good hits.

On the video: Very funny.
On the SSNcN: Comic Gold.

Well, rotating the arm inwards does tighten up the muscles to better resist the recoil forces. But I'm not sure that's why Homey does it.
