Do you carry at work?

Post by YugoRPK »

Do you have immediate access to firearms or carry at work? My company has no official policy on firearms other than a sign in the lobby stating no dangerous weapons are allowed on site. That is not a policy. My old boss, the executive VP used to carry a small Kahr all the time and I know the VP of HR carries a baby Browning. I don't carry per se but I do keep a mod 60 S&W .357 in my desk. My office is the first in the building and I have had to fire enough people over my tenure , many of whom were a bit off their rocker and my life has been threatened even just last week. I figure my life is a bit more important than my job if it ever came down to it.

At this particular job no farther than the parking lot. The best I can do inside the building is a pocket knife.

At some previous jobs yes.

Not at my current job, no weapons allowed. Certain termination and potential prison time.

Previous jobs where it just a violation of company policy with the worst being possible termination, I would carry when in the field but not in the office. I worked in the field and would rarely go to an office.

If the policy allowed, I'd carry all day every day at work.

My office was invaded last week. Literally. The receptionist let a guy in to see "the boss". Walks into my office and starts mumbling some crap . I told him to go to the HR office and fill out and app and if something came open he was a match for him they would contact him. Then he asked to use my computer. What? No. Get out of my office. Then he leans over my desk and starts punching keys on my keyboard FOR TEN MINUTES. I stepped back and called 911. They told me to leave the area so I walked out in the hallway. After 10 minutes of hitting the same key the guy stops and walks out into the hallway and asks me if i'm OK. I told him I was and that he should leave because he was trespassing and the police were on the way. He said he wanted to sit down so he walks into my office ,closes the door , sits down in my office chair and as I watch through the office window he starts fidgeting with s--t on my desk including my knife. I thought for sure the idiot was going to slash his wrists and F--k my desk up. Then he reaches next to my desk and picks up my old thermos that I dont use because it leaks. He pours himself a cup of 6 month old coffee and drinks it. So now the cops show up and drag his crazy ass outside. They ask if I wanted to pursue trespassing charges and I of course said yes. He was yelling about his guns when they shoved him in the squad car. Last I heard they hauled him off for a few days in the "evaluation" ward.

So yeah. I'm fine keeping a gun in a discreet location now.

Sounds like an unfinished scene out of a Tarantino movie.

That would put a kink in my day too.

OK. This is where I'm behind my desk on the phone to 911. Got about 30 seconds worth before the operator told me to leave the room. Sorry. Dubbed in the music to remove personal info. Seemed like a good fit.

The repetitive actions and your description of lack of social awareness by the person indicates to me that the person is suffering from early onset Alzheimers/Dementia (I'm not an MD but I've seen them on TV  )

We've probably all seen people we know or relatives with the same sort of forgetfulness and repetition, before they were medically diagnosed with onset Alzheimers/Dementia.

Too bad there isn't "yet" a medical cure to unscramble the brain and reboot their software. From what 've read, regular vigorous exercise helps.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

I'm not joking about Dementia. My Grandma's sister-in-law has it and it's very disconcerting to her. No fun for her return to offer home care daughter either. :(

I own my own gym/training studio, so I AM the authority.

When I'm wearing cargo shorts, I will frequently have a Kel-Tec P-3AT, or my Shield 9mm in my thigh pocket, buttoned up. OCCASIONALLY I'm up and down off the floor giving a demonstration, which can be an issue, but usually it isn't. Many days, I'm literally working in nylon "basketball shorts", so I'll belt-clip carry my Kel-Tec. But that always comes off while I'm here. Most often I carry to and from the gym, then leave the gun in a locker behind my desk. The area I'm in is kind of "professional office" space , mostly lawyers, accountant, and architects. So it's a relatively nice area, but we are a few blocks away from trouble. A few of the local gas stations have been robbed recently, even at 7am... I'm here frequently after dark, especially in the winter, so I just lock up behind clients as they come in.

My biggest concern is I'm a cash business... but few people know that, so it's less of an issue. Also... few dudes are willing to "victimize" a 6'4", 240+lb bodybuilder... but... desperate people are stupid. My GF works with me and co-owns the business, and doesn't carry. She DOES know how to shoot, and where all my/our guns are. I'm pushing her to get her carry license for simply walking the dogs later at night. Not so much concerned about 2-legged predators when she's walking a large male husky (80 lb) or pit/lab mix (60 lb). More-so loose dogs looking for a fight.

Many of my clients shoot and carry. In fact one routinely puts his Glock 26 in my locker while he's working out. Many of our mid-workout conversations revolve around guns, shooting, and carry, so I'd call my work-place VERY carry-friendly!

It's good to be the king.

More may know now but maybe that's not your real name. ;)

I like that you support 2A at your business.

These are people with no marketable skills. I bet if you took all the people who hold up stores, and all the people who read internet forums, there would be no overlap.

Love where I work. I could walk around with my LMT M203
40MM and get nothing but that's cool and wanting to check
it out.

We open the windows in the 5th floor board room to check
out our scopes against Stone Mountain.

I usually don't carry on me but often have a Sig 229 or
5.56 AK in my office

Thanks-
Shea

That's an interesting idea. I may have to start an armed robbers forum.

I didn't for a very long time, until meeting smash & grab thieves leaving as I was entering work. Unfortunately I'm carrying my Seecamp as it's the easiest pistol I can conceal.
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

I run an independent pharmacy and keep guns in locations where they can be accessed quickly should I need to. I also carry to and from the car when leaving...there's plenty of crazies wanting into a pharmacy. Knock on wood, but so far all break-ins (thankfully infrequent) have been in the middle of the night....long after we closed, locked up and were all home safely.

I hope we never face a daytime robbery.....armed or unarmed. There are about 14 people working here and I'd hate to not be able to defend the place with that many people scattered all over the store.
I've gotta stop this habit.

Most days - yes. I'm out in the field traversing powerline right of ways about 75% of the time. You never know what you'll come across in the sticks. Not that I ever have in 17+ years but you never know. If I'm in the office I usually leave it in the truck just because my office has an exterior door and I should be able to get out before anything happened. Policy states "no brandishing of firearms" Previous CEO was VERY pro carry and even referred some neighbors to take my CCW class. Unfortunately he retired, policy hasn't changed but we still don't know where the new guy stands.

Official work policy, and they're VERY METICULOUS about words in contracts and documents is "Do not frighten or make others feel unsafe" --under section of weapons and workplace violence. If they wanted to say something else they would. It's a small company and it will stay that way. So that means conceal deep and shut up, don't ask don't tell.

I'd be stupid not to carry in my line of work.

Wyoming doesn't have many gun free zones left, but I work in one of them, so until that changes no, I don't carry at work. My wife works in a bank, and always carries.
