AR-15 help

Post by Cooper »

I have an AR-15 made by rguns.net and the pin that holds the hammer on the lower reciever keeps backing out. Around the 15 to 20 round mark the pin has backed out enough that the weapon will not fire. Any advice?

My guess with the info you provided, either the receiver hole or pin or both are out of spec. Have you tried to contact the rguns?

What lower receiver and lower parts is it?

you can use oversize pin for around $4.00 or Kns anti rotational for around $30 , to fix the problem yourself

You know, the way a Timney trigger module snugs itself into the receiver puts side pressure on the pins so that they won't move. You might think about upgrading your trigger.

i would love to upgrade the trigger to a better unit. the pull on this one is real heavy. I tried to call them, but they are closed for the weekend. I will try the better pins first to see if that will fix the problem. They new trigger packs are too much.

Do yourself a favor, and before deciding that your lower is out-of-whack, check your hammer to make sure the j-spring is there. A new hammer is a lot cheaper than a new lower.

all the springs are there. just after multiple rounds that f-ing pin backs out. it backs out just enough for the hammer to turn slightly and get stuck.

Something else isn't right. Are you sure the pin isn't broken?

If:
  • the pin is correct (has the groove in the center) and
    the pin isn't broken and
    the j-spring is there,
then it shouldn't back out.

If it does, then at least one of the above 3 conditions is likely false.

If you were to buy a replacement trigger group, it will most likely come with the proper pins as well.
I would recommend Geissele. They are a little on the pricey side, but they are rock solid, very nice triggers and they come with the proper pins to use.

And the Geek above is correct (as is JohnnyC) It's either the pin or the j spring in the hammer. That's all there is to it.

The one trigger I bought from him failed safety checks in three different lowers.
So, just a heads up to do safety checks on ALL triggers before heading out to the range.
