EDIT: Yep, look at the picture on the upper right here. They no longer make them from copper, but brass instead. :)

I'm not certain if you're serious, but here's an idea.

20mm = ~0.787". 950JDJ is .950".
"The custom single-shot rifles for the .950 JDJ reportedly weighed over 100 pounds, I really doubt that you could make a manageable handgun out of it. (The muzzle brake alone weighed something like 18 lbs.)

Remember the ballistics, 3,600 grs at ~2,200 fps."

That works out to 38685 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle.

http://airbornecombatengineer.typepad.c ... calib.html
At approximately 38,000 foot-pounds of kinetic energy, the 20mm Vulcan round fired out of the Anzio Rifle has over three times the power of the .50 BMG cartridge fired out of a comparable rifle, which is around 12,200 foot pounds of kinetic energy.
So, basically, it's a wash in terms of ft-lbs. :)

The real magic of the 20mm is that it fires a pointy bullet better at certain tasks than the .950's less pointed projectile.
RIP Dave. You will be missed.

The 950 will be easy to load subsonic rounds for use with a can, The 20mm would need stuffing
to fill the case.
The 20mm is better for long range, the 950 is good for short to mid range as the pill drops like a rock.

:lol: I was mostly curious what you guys thought about the tradeoff between a lighter, dramatically faster, and slightly smaller diameter bullet (20mm) and the heavier, slower, Mack truck of a bullet coming out of the .950.

Either is equally impractical. :roll:

I bet they're both equally a hoot to shoot. Once...
