Externally thread Mossberg 930?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Externally thread Mossberg 930?

Post by jdasilva »

Can I externally thread my Mossberg 930 with M22x75?

I have a 18.5" home defense cylinder bore & don't want to settle for a 24" or 28" barrel to accommodate a choke.

The M22x75 is for saigas/veprs but I can't find the outside diameter anywhere & I don't have one available to compare.

Gunsmith said that it would cost a ridiculous amount to ream & tap the 930 for improved cylinder.

Contacted americhoke.com but no reply as yet

Define what you think of as "ridiculous". The average cost of threading a shotgun barrel is about $120. I've seen is as low as $80 and as high as $150.

My gunsmith has an outside company that may charge around $300.

Bob from americhoke replied to my email that he would do it with a rem-choke for $160 plus shipping & insurance which seems like a fair price.

But if I can thread it in M22x75, that would be way cheaper. I just need to know if that the 930 barrel can handle those threads.

Look up Mike Orlen, he does really good work at a very reasonable price.

I emailed Mike Orlen from shotgun world & Aimpro Tactical, recommended by silencer shop.

Aimpro never got back with me.

Mike Orlen sent me a price list but no message.
I sent him a reply saying that i would send him the barrel, no reply.
I let him know that I sent the barrel & asked how to pay him, no reply.

Everyone on shotgun world seems to rave about his quality service & quick turnaround but I'm a tad nervous.

I imagine he's probably extremely busy since he's a one man show & also getting ready for the weekend.

So here's the prices for installing a choke in a cylinder bore 12 gauge i've come across, if anyone is interested

Mike Orlen from shotgun world: $55 + s/h (quick reply then no replies)

Aimpro Tactical: $70 +s/h (no reply)

Americhoke: $160 + s/h (quick reply)

I'll post an update next week

That seems to be his MO, I'm sure he is quite busy.

I appreciate the recommendation MJF1911; I was blown away by how much people wanted to charge me for a choke job

I got my barrel back & its top notch. Michael Orlen is the Man!

It was very easy to reach him by phone & he was always very polite & helpful. I guess it's hard to understand that some people just don't prefer email correspondence but to each his own.

There was a mis-communication on my part. I didn't need the actual rem choke, I just wanted the barrel threaded for it. I didn't know that he had shipped it to me & never mentioned that I shorted him any money. I just happened to look at the receipt & it said the total price was $87 but I only sent him $64.

I called him immediately & told him that I would have a check mailed asap. All he cared about is that I would have a good time shooting. Mike is a true class act.

Aimpro Tactical never called or emailed me back.

Good to hear, my local gunsmith is just like Mr. Orlen, very talented and busy.
