General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Form 1 and Form 4 Wait Times expected to decrease
ATF hires 9 new examiners. Last week, the NFATCA posted an article that the DOJ lifted the hiring ban for the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) and the ATF hired 9 new examiners.
This should significantly speed up the approval process for the purchase or manufacture of firearms restricted by the National Firearms Act. The new staff at the ATF who examine the requests for transfer ( ATF Form 4) and the requests to manufacture (ATF Form 1) should be around 30 which is almost triple the number just a few months ago when expected approval times were in excess of 6 months. We do not know if this will bring times down to 2-3 months but it seems reasonable.

Sounds like a good thing

Government Job Security.....if they did speed up, they would have to lay off those new employees
like they do in the private sector.

If wait times did noticeably drop, then I expect the volume would just increase, and we'd be right back to where we are now, if not worse.

The wait time used to be in the 3 month time frame, didn't it? I understand there were fewer forms being submitted but I doubt they had a huge staff a few years ago. What was the examiner to form ratio then, and why, if it's about to become similar, is it unreasonable to think the times may drop? More examiners/staff can't hurt. I'm all for it.

I'm all for it too.....I'm sure the others are all for it as well, but they're still being negative Nancys. We don't have anything to lose by having more examiners as far as I'm concerned. Unless they plan on just looking at all our forms THAT much harder. I'd be some kinda happy if wait times dropped from 6 months to 3 months!!!! I don't think my wife or wallet would be happy though.

I've gotta stop this habit.

My luck is they will drop to 3 months or so....since I ordered every can I want already and started the transfer process on all but 2 of them wait times will prolly disappear completely. HAHA (wishful thinking)

Just preparing for the on-slot of paperwork for the new semi-auto approvals

From 2004 to 2007 my LLC/Corp Form 1 or 4 transfers were twenty one to twenty seven days door to door. I miss those days.

God, I can't imagine. I don't know how I would behave if this were still true. I hope in 5 years we aren't saying "remember when transfers were only 6 months"
