Hi all,
I am interested in getting a Tirant 45S suppress for my Kriss Vector, but would really like to use it on my 9mm and .22LR handguns. Can anyone tell me about what the approximate difference in decibles on a 9mm and or .22 using the Tirant 45S on it vs....
9mm no suppressor
.22 no suppressor
9mm with the Tirant 9S
.22 with a dedicated rimfire suppressor
9mm with the Tirant 45S
.22 with the Tirant 45S
I am trying to figure out if I go the route of trying to save money by buying a Tirant 45S and the pistons rather than eventually owning three different cans, how much performance will be sacrificed by taking the less expensive route.
Thanks so much in advance for all comments and opinions!
Steve

I don't believe there has been any testing on the mini Tirants on subcalibers especially 22lr.
I can tell you this though the TirantS its not the quietest can and needs to be shot wet to be hearing safe on 45.
If you are trying to find a one can to rule them all then it won't happen. There WILL be compromise somewhere.
That said to make it the cheapest possible with the most satisfactory results look at the AAC TiRant45 fullsize for the 45 and 9, and a SWR Spectre2 for the 22lr. Leave the 22lr in the SS can and don't bung up your baffles with lead on the 45/9.

Very good point about the not gumming up the baffles of the 9mm/.45 by shooting .22LR. Thanks for your help. I will look into your suggestions.Bendersquint wrote:Steve,ORSalesRep wrote:Hi all,

Unless you really have a need for the shorter Tirant S I would go with the full size version. It is quieter and not too much larger. As mentioned above, get a dedicated .22 can.

I can't speak to the 45s, but I have a 9s that I shoot dry with subsonic 9mm and it's still hearing safe. The numbers on the s cans don't do them justice. They're quiet cans.

Re: Thinking about a Tirant 45S, but have questions
If you're looking for a 45 can that is good with .22, I'd go with the Octane. The Ti-Rant's baffles are designed in such a way that if you shoot .22 through it the baffles will become difficult to remove for cleaning. Also, the baffles on the Ti-Rant are aluminum, which means you need to be a little more careful about how you remove the lead fouling.
On the other hand, the Octane has stainless steel baffles and has basically the same design as the Spectre II, making disassembly easy even after it's fouled with lead from shooting .22.
My friend and I did a .22 comparison test between a Spectre II and an Octane 9 HD using a Ruger Mk III host. The Octane 9 was noticeably quieter than the Spectre II shooting the same .22 ammo. I'd be willing to bet that if we'd had an Octane 45 to test, it would have only been a little louder than the Octane 9, and probably still quieter than the Spectre II.
