New Octane 45HD and Can't Use It

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

New Octane 45HD and Can't Use It

Post by FB3 »

Problem Solved---Silencershop has them is stock and I just ordered one, so should have it in a few days. Still aggravating though.

I received my approved Form 4 for a new SWR Octane 45HD about 5 or six weeks ago and still cannot get a .574 x 28 piston for it.
The piston was ordered and paid for with the can, but was not available when the can shipped to my dealer. I have been trying to get one, but the standard answer is "they are on backorder".

Seems strange that the suppressors are available and common pistons are not. Quite frustrating. Anyone have one is stock?

Doesn't make much sense when the can was only even announced ~2 months ago.

The only thing that is off is that I do not have the piston. Form 4 approval was fairly short because I cancelled another application that was ready for approval last year. They kept the check and processed this one in its place.

Wow ... talk about a good break and a bad break all in one!

You might consider looking for a 1/2x28 piston as well. The Octane 45 is reported to sound pretty good with 9mm. A 5/8 x 24 fixed adapter would also allow the use of the can on a 300 blk in sub mode.

You might try The Silencer Shop for the 45 cal piston.

You can do that?!

I should just always keep one in queue with them for new releases...

I have never heard of them doing a credit like that, the system is not setup to do that. The tax is tied to a serial number and when it is cancelled the system automatically refunds the check.

I just spoke with NFA Branch and they have never heard of that happening either.

Bizarre

Just for clarification, the first application had been in line for over five months before it was pulled. Rather than get the $200 refunded, I was able to leave it there and it would be applied to the next Form 4 that I submitted. Total time between the initial submission and getting this approval was over eight months. I didn't ask for this, it just happened and I am not complaining.

Was thinking you meant F3 approval instead. But hey, stranger things have happened through official gov't channels.

Yup talk to SWR
I had a similar problem accept it was the dealers fault ( Octane 9 HD)

All I did was explain to SWR what happened gave them the can serial # and the dealer that sold it to me.
They took care of it.

Ya pix. Or it's a ghost can.

Geeze Black sheep I thought a I was doing good with 2 pistons..
One for the 300 Blkout and one for the 9mm stuff.

Yah I spent as much in mounts as the can.
So far I have the
3 lug
1/2X28 piston (came with the octane)
16 mm LH piston
.578x28 v2 piston
9/16x24 piston
5/8x24 fixed barrel mount
I think I have all I need. (For now!)

Extra mounts are allways good to have.
Just look what happend to the availability
of mounts for the SPR/M4 glad I stocked up.

Black-Sheep, you're a man after my own heart!

I have an Octane -9HD now, an other F4 for one in process, and F4s in process for two Octane 45s.

Have a pair of each of the mounts you mention except the 9/16x24. There is little more aggravating than not being able to mount a can when you want to do so.

I've had the examiner give me credit for another suppressor... Its not uncommon. Its the examiner's discretion to do it. But my situation was unique but I know examiners can change serial on form 4. I don't think they do that with all form 4 cancellations. I am sure if you cancelled a form 4 and asked, they would probably do it or if you had error letter, you could ask the examiner to do it but like I stated, its at the examiner's discretion.

Lucky dog to get the Octane 45 so fast.

Mine has the piston and my dealer had tons of them. Sounds like a dealer problem.

Also have all the mounts from my Octane 9 so just waiting.

Get some fixed mounts for rifles for sure! :P

Probably a dealer problem, saw the same thing happen to a buddy of mine. He bought an Octane 9 HD early last summer and the dealer said that he would have the pistons shortly. Eight months later the approved Form comes in and surprise no pistons. By buddy says to the dealer: WTF an I suppose to do, duct tape it to the barrel?". LOL

Thanks for all of the constructive replies. I have contacted SWR and my dealer has contacted the distributor. Both have responded in a timely manner and the short answer is they are back ordered and there is no estimate on availability as of this time.

I will contact Silencershop and see if they have one. Sort of hate to pay for something that I have already paid for, but am tired of the wait.

You could buy the one you need from a dealer that has it in stock and have your current dealer order you one in another pitch you are likely to use. That way you still get the one you already paid for.
