Called ATF Office for status today

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Called ATF Office for status today

Post by Captain Skippy »

Called the ATF today and they said my forms went to final approval 10 May and is awaiting a final signature. Holy crap I can't wait. Just wonder how long that will take. That was a month ago.

Well, it's closer than it was. Hard to believe it can set on someone's desk for a month but I guess they are swamped.

Yeah the waiting sucks, period. But you stick in the back of your mind. It's kinda like that insurance commercial where the dog can't sleep thinking about his bone. The worse part is paying all that $$$ and bringing home just papers and leaving your new prized possession in someone else's safe.

I know, the nice part is that my Class 3 dealer has a range on site and I can fire there while waiting for paperwork

I had two go pending on 12/04/12 and one on 11/30/12....I just got an email from my dealer saying that he called the ATF and my Octane 9HD that went pending on 12/04 has been approved. If mine approved then yours must be close too!!!! Happy waiting and enjoy em when you get em!

I just wish there was some subsonic 9mm ammo to be found around here. :(

Just curious what people are using for their approval date? For instance, Captain said his went to final approval on May 10th, but is that the date people are putting in the status updates, or is there a different date for final signature?

Ex:
1. NFA Item:
2. Form Type:
3. Transfer Type:
4. Form Sent:
5. Check Cashed:
6. Pending:
7. Approved:
8. From Received:

Up until today mine looked like this:

1. NFA Item: SilencerCo SS Sparrow
2. Form Type: Form 4
3. Transfer Type: Trust
4. Form Sent: 12/10/12
5. Check Cashed: 12/14/12
6. Pending: 1/8/13
7. Approved:
8. From Received:

But when I called today I was told the pending date, and another date of May 13 that it was sent to the examiner for signature. Is the May 13th date the one I'd put in the approved area, or is there another date that the examiner signs it that I'd put there?

I don't think it's on a desk, it's probably in a box in the hallway or a storage closet waiting for the chance to sit on a desk for a week.

In all honesty it is much faster and easier to obtain an illegal suppressor.

Have you seen the NFA tracker website? People put in their own info and it gives you an idea of what submit dates they are working on. Also good to help figure out how long each step takes.
