Best .223 hosts for silencing/supressing?
Tried searching for a list of .223 rifles that lend themselves to silencing, but didn't find one. Can anyone help me get a list together?

Any .223 can be made to "lend itself to silencing".os2firefox wrote:Tried searching for a list of .223 rifles that lend themselves to silencing, but didn't find one. Can anyone help me get a list together?
What are you asking for, a list of all .223's, or a list of already threaded .223's or.........
Bolt gun will be the quietest and semi-auto's next then full auto's.

Well, from my previous reading, an AR15 will benefit from a supressor a lot more than an AK47 will. I am looking for a semi-auto rifles that can be suppressed the most, so that I can learn more about them.

AR15 will suppress better than the AK47 in 5.56mm.os2firefox wrote:Well, from my previous reading, an AR15 will benefit from a supressor a lot more than an AK47 will. I am looking for a semi-auto rifles that can be suppressed the most, so that I can learn more about them.
Sig556 is same type system as int he AK but I personally think it sounds better than the AK.
Not many other common platforms out there that I follow.

Re: Best .223 hosts for silencing/supressing?
My vote is DI AR15 with an adjustable gas block. A suppressor affects the gas timing and level of ANY semi-auto rifle. DI guns are probably worse for this, but there are several adjustable gas blocks out there to mitigate. I never looked far into it, but I guess there are long "squiggly" gas tubes available too, so as to slow down the gas impulse on the bolt carrier.

I have heard that a Ruger Mini-14 is less 'suppressable' than an AR-15. Not that it is necessarily harder to do, but that the level of suppression is not as favorable.

If you want a very reasonably priced .223 bolt gun that shoots well, have a look at the new Savage Hog Hunter. They come factory-threaded
