Help with my Berrys/N320 9mm load

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Help with my Berrys/N320 9mm load

Post by IB Slingin »

I recently purchased my first press(Dillon 650) and need help loading my 9mm subsonic stuff. Im using a Berrys 147 gr. RN and N320. Where do you guys recommend my starting min/max be and coal? I will be using once fired, mixed brass. I do have a couple manuals, but I would like to hear from you guys. This will be used for range fun through a few different hosts. Thank you

What hosts? If you're consistently shooting pistol hosts you can probably do a one size-fits all OAL, but you may need to vary it based on how they feed or chamber in a carbine.

I shoot a lot of subsonic 9mm through Glocks and I solely use Titegroup, not VV powder, but from looking at my hand load notes, the charge weight and OALs are pretty similar. Also, since you are using plated bullets, I'd bump down .1 or .2gr from that of data for jacketed ammo--this came from a shooter on Rainier's team, and following her advice, I've had great results.

Anyhow...Numbers for VV 320:
OAL: Somewhere between 1.13" and 1.15" (I use 1.15" with my plated 147s)
Min: 3.1gr
Max: 3.9gr

Titegroup is #14 on Hodgdon's burn rate chart and N320 is #24, so keep that in mind when I tell you I have good accuracy and consistency with 3.4gr Titegroup.

Good luck, start your way at the minimum, work your way up and check for signs of pressure, etc. I only load about 6 rounds of each charge weight I'm testing, hit the range (free SC DNR range) shoot my 30ish rounds, narrow it down, and take the top 3 out with 25 or so of each and compare accuracy etc from there. I don't have a chronograph unfortunately but my handloads are well within subsonic ranges based on published data.

Have you try win231? Works good for me in 9mm subs . Great. For 38 and 45 acp too.

WST is pretty slow and I found it to give an unpleasant amount of blowback, although this was through a carbine. Titegroup is a very good powder for the 9mm and all range of loads. I use Titegroup in my .40 and .45 also. It is a fine ball powder and meters really well.
