Surefire Mad Science Div: Something Wicked This Way Comes

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

I don't understand why anyone would want a Surefire can when the 7.62 Saker becomes available for purchase.

From Surefire "It is a sneak peek on a special 300 BlackOut suppressor. All I will say is it is just stupid quiet."

I think people want surefire cans because they do what they are supposed to do very well.

But then again, this is why we have great companies like Silencerco/SWR, AAC, Surefire, Gemtech, Liberty, Huntertown Arms, TBAC and Templar Tactical Firearms making cans to meet everyone's specifications for the perfect can.

The Surefire 300 Blackout can runs both supersonic and subsonic and is very quiet. At least it sounds quiet to my uncalibrated ear!

My assumption is that its a .30 can thats not overbuilt for .308 or even some of the magnum calibers to keep unnecessary weight and size down.

If you're on AR15.COM youve seen the "looking for 556 can" threads answered by "get an X because its rated for 300 WM and RUM even though its heavier than longer than what you need it for.

The 556-RC is already the exact same weight and size as the 762Mini. I'm not sure how they could remove wieght/size from the 762Mini and come out with a can you could still use on a 556. Maybe this is a 300blk only can and isn't rated for short barrel 556 maybe?

My guess is it's a 762Mini with a different baffle config that's quieter on a 300blk.

I'm not terrible amazed really. I have a 556-RC and 762-RC and they're great. Now I'd be interested in a Ti mini.

And quieting down sub 300BLKs is not much of a feat.

Maybe the same thing you are, that the the Saker762 "must" be quieter than the SF 762 because you were once told SF is "always" louder.

What is he assuming?
Is it quieter than SF?

Is the POI shift less than SF?

Does it tighten or loosen groups?

Is the zero repeatable?

How is the backpressure?

How does it change ROF?

Is the mount reliable over time?

What is the life expectancy of the silencer in rounds?

How is the mirage?

How does it perform on short BBLs?

Is the sound reduction of 762 on 556 really the same as 556 on 556?

What are the harmonics?

I will give two freebies I am assuming - 1) it will cost less and 2) it will come to market this year.

As for the rest, if you have not tested the can and know these answers for a fact, you are making a lot of assumptions. I can name a lot of cans folks thought were going to be competition-killers and they sucked.

It doesn't sound cool when you say "we tested it at my local or private range in the middle texas(or enter state here)".

Undisclosed location makes it sound secret squirrel, its part of the hype buildup.

The location was a ranch in TX that we are part of a long standing, fun industry gathering where we bring out new R&D toys and let everyone play with them and everyone kills a ton of hogs. It is a good time to have others evaluate new products and throw back some good whiskeys.

Sounds like fun!

Definitely looking forward to checking out the SS Ryder when it comes out, have a .gov customer interested in them.

Considering the 5.56 saker has been out a while and the 7.62 version is damn near the exact same with the exception of being an inch longer and having a different blast baffle material. The 5.56 saker is widely considered to be a great can and performs as well or better than its surefire counterpart. Surefire doesnt publish much hard data on their cans but silencerco has already published db data on the saker with quite a few different cartridges. The results are in line with other quality cans so what is there to be surprised about? Most of its design has been to market for a year now and it has already been db tested. Doesnt leave much to the imagination. Have to ask silencerco what theyll warranty it on as I've only seen them post numbers for the specwar, but I cant imagine the saker that's supposedly built better would be approved for less. If I didnt know any better I'd think you have stock in surefire. Its not like the saker is a brand new design rhat nobody has tested.

I know, I just found it funny they then showed enough video that anyone who has been there knew where it was.

And if I didn't know any better I would think you were short selling it.

You are new here, you should have been around a few years ago when I was throwing SF under every bus I could find. Now I am just trying to be fair.

You sole criteria seems to be dB reduction and I get that. SF will never win that one. I bet it is not even in the top 5 for design criteria. They will probably never win price either. But many of the other things they do, they do very well.
