Threaded handgun barrels

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Threaded handgun barrels

Post by BlakeJ »

I need two, one for a M&P 9, and one for a XD 45.

What are my options? I know storm lake makes some, but I hear mixed reviews and they're proud of those things.

I'd choose factory threaded barrels (if available) over aftermarket ones. But that's just me.

They make one for the M&P 9 full size. Not sure about the XD.

Where's the best place to find factory barrels? Google failed me and I don't see any on S&W's website.

Factory threaded barrels are generally hard to come by. Most of the time they're always out of stock. So bookmarking and checking websites daily is your best bet. Here's a few to start with:

My M&P 9 has a Stormlake and it's just as accurate as the factory and has never missed a beat. I had called S&W a few months ago to inquire about the availability of factory threaded barrels and they said they were dedicating all their factory resources to standard items rather than specialized items to catch up to the demand so they weren't making the threaded barrels at that time.

I have two Stormlake barrels, one on an M&P40 and one on a 1911 and I couldn't be happier with them.

Wilson Combat makes a barrel for the M&P. Might be out of your price range though.

Storm lake is good to go. That's what I use in my M&P 9 and 45.

At least in the 1970's Bar-Sto .45's.

Major Dick Culver used them in the USMC competitions.

I had a bad experience with storm lake. I bought a Glock 20 barrel from them and the chamber was soo tight a loose factory or reloaded round would not slide in the barrel.

I ended up buying a KKM and couldn't be happier. I just wish KKM made M&P 45 barrels.
