22 suppressor maintenance question
hello to all. first time poster and just getting started in suppressors. and was hoping maybe I could get some info. I just ordered a surefire sf ryder and was wondering what your recommendations on cleaning cycles should be? thanks for any info.
Re: 22 suppressor maintenance question
It has aluminum baffles, so I wouldn't go more than 500 rounds between cleanings.
Also since it's aluminum, no ultrasonics and no "dip".

And seriously consider using Permatex Ant-Seize* on threads
and even light coat on inner cylinder to prevent binding and
galling.
* <<
• Permatex Anti-Seize Compound
• Highly-refined blend of aluminum, copper and graphite lubricants
• Prevents corrosion, galling, and seizing, and allows easier tear down
• Temperature range is 60 ° to 1200° F.
• Can also be used to ensure easy removal of spark plugs, cylinder head and exhaust bolts,
and lubricate sliding caliper disc brakes
• Easy to use brush top bottle" >>

Re: 22 suppressor maintenance question
thanks very much for all the info. and the permatex sounds like a great idea. what exactly will a "dip" do to an aluminum suppressor? thanks again
Re: 22 suppressor maintenance question
Historian that is a Great idea!
I have never read that but, it sure makes sense!
Thank you.
Lateck,

The new design is easier to take down and clean but aluminum needs hand scrubbing and when really bad soda a blasting . It doesn't have to be spotless but lead build up can be a pain.
The dip is toxic so don't worry about it. (

Dip is a 50/50 mix of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. 2 very common household items.gs308justice wrote:thanks very much for all the info. and the permatex sounds like a great idea. what exactly will a "dip" do to an aluminum suppressor? thanks again
The mixture literally eats/liquifies solid lead, turning it into toxic lead acetate. Nasty stuff.
It will also eat away at aluminum, anodized or not. Even titanium and carbon steel aren't safe. Only stainless steel is safe for dip cleaning.

Hoping to get some clarification on this point.rimshaker wrote:

Is pure titanium OK to dip? TBAC claims that their cans are all Ti therefore safe to dip and put in an ultrasonic cleaner.
So do other manufacturers use an alloy of Titanium with Al in their Titanium cans that makes them a no-no to dip?

Re: 22 suppressor maintenance question
I have been very tempted to try taking my 22LR can apart and throwing all the internals into my drum tumbler with SS media.
I know my brass cases come out great...
Anybody have any thoughts about this?

What can do you have? If the baffles are aluminum, I would say no.Old Wanderer wrote:I have been very tempted to try taking my 22LR can apart and throwing all the internals into my drum tumbler with SS media.

I will say that when I've shot a BUNCH (1000+ rounds of full auto 22) through my prototype Spectre or a Spectre 2, it still requires some manual intervention on the baffles with a bead blaster. I have a reamer that is the same size as the ID of the coax of the Omega baffles so I'll use that as well.

.
Decided to try for a bit, and open and check every 15 minutes. If I see any wear tot he base material, I will stop, if it works well I will report my findings.

Funny, people are asking questions here that are right next to answers.
