Silencerco shotgun suppressor

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Not the first as stated in the vid. Ugly but at least serviceable , over priced.

Hope it encourages other companies to make them!

Agreed, but I want one. Looks like a very large osprey. I wonder what the street price will be? Maybe 1100-1200.

They don't really say first shotgun suppressor. They say the "first and only commercially-viable shotgun suppressor". I take that to mean that it's the first mass produced one.
How do you adjust the choke on it?
And aren't modular parts considered extra suppressor parts? If so, wouldn't that be illegal according to the ATF?

Yes, they are considered extra suppressor parts, and therefore illegal.

I assume Silencerco figured a legal way to do it, I have a request into FTB to find out how they did it as we have been denied on multiple times for a similar design just in a centerfire rifle can.

It does look really Familiar...

They spent a LOT of time in the booth and then came back in "civilian" shirts all week asking about our Modular Monolithic Shotgun can.

Which is not true. They've been making them in Europe for many years.

Another one added to the list. Wish it were "No Country for Old Men" quite

I was almost satisfied with my collection before discovering NFA goods, almost..... now I'm screwed!!
It is not the Death Rattle in the throat of Western civilization which is surprising: it is the fact that millions of Americans believe that the death rattle is a beautiful song!

Seems pretty cool, but would be a bitch to lug around quail hunting.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Think there will be a way to put it on a Serbu Super Shorty? I understand that you cant put choke tubes on such short barrels.

So apparently these things thread on via choke tubes. That just seems crazy that it can hold that stress/weight. It also reminds me of this thread and how the people here ripped on the company for doing the same thing http://www.silencertests.com/forum/view ... 2&t=109159.

Granted, Silencerco knows what they are doing...but it just seems crazy and ill wait for a report where someone hit a clay pigeon with a 12" chunk of metal.

also wondering what is steel and what is aluminum. I cant imagine a shotgun has pressure like a rifle. Curious if it could be done with all aluminum. After building a .308 can it would be fun to try and build a 12ga one. Also wondering if they used a baffle stack (and if so flat or cones) or a monolithic core.

Does this mean you are taking issue with the marketing statement of "lightweight".

what i dont get is...how?!

i just built a .308 can that came in at 23.5oz which is fairly weighty, but it is also 100% stainless and there is only a .375 bore.

This can is part aluminum, and has a GAPING bore. Just curious how there is still so much weight on it.

EDIT: Never mind on the baffle system. Found a video here. Pretty intuitive design. Rather intricate.

I have a shotgun suppressor that's been pending since February. Let me shed some light on shotgun cans.

1) They are all going to be heavy, because they need to be big. It's going to be a heavy can. 2 lbs sounds about right.

2) There is no way anything under 12" is going to be a hearing safe shotgun can. At 6", I'd say, "why even bother?" With a non-NFA barrel, you're basically going to have a weapon that's the overall length of a field gun (~28" barrel). That's the reality of suppressing a shotgun.

3) My can and all the Euro-cans I've seen are reflex style. That keeps the baffles from being struck by shot. I'd be wary of a non-reflex shotgun can.

4) It's not going to be hollywood quiet. It's going to be more like a suppressed .223.

5) It eliminates most of the recoil, flash, and the big boom, which makes it totally worth it.

6) Unless the ATF ruled differently, this modular suppressor thing is not going to happen without multiple tax stamps.

Yup, when BATFE drops the hammer on this one, its going to be ugly. I just hope their wrath doesn't extend to civilians who have purchased extra silencer parts.

Yes, would rather buy one with the barrel and only interested in short OAL and SD/ packing/ hunting since I hike with a Pistol grip 500 for cat and Bear. might have to make one also since the US is Sloooooow getting them on the market. Even some reduction is fine with me if short & light.

Will admit the shape of the S-crow grows on you and matches the tube and the rods are interesting. Might be too complicated with lots of pars though.
