Real-world tests have shown that Melonite barrel treatment definitely reduces internal barrel friction. Joel notes that, after processing, barrels deliver 50 to 100 fps LESS velocity with the same load, a reliable indicator of reduced friction.
Can someone explane why with reduced friction a bullet will have a slower speed. When I treat a engine with molly the idle speed increases due to lower friction?

MELONITE and slow bullets
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

Re: MELONITE and slow bullets
Have seen the phenomenon before in a different situation ... and took some time to figure it out.
We speculate that the reduced friction results in more rapid movement of the projectile through the throat and down the barrel ... resulting in a greater volume that the burning powder charge must fill in a given time thus reducing the pressure acting on the projectile. Lower pressure yields lower velocity.

I can wrap my head around that thanks.

Less friction means less pressure pushing the projectile.

Re: MELONITE and slow bullets
I wonder if the same would hold true if a explosive was used.
