Surefire Suppressor Buying Advice

Post by brianp1081 »

Hello all! I have a single .308 and two .223/5.56's all with Surefire SOCOM brakes and I'm getting to order a suppressor. I was thinking about the 556-RC initially. I know the 762-RC isn't ideal on 5.56, but how bad is it actually? I don't believe the weight, length, or the price difference bother me (but I obviously can't afford both). Does the 762-RC still do a good enough job on 5.56 (at least 20 db's?) to just buy it and use it on all 3? I hadn't put much thought into any of the mini's because of the reduction in suppression and it I don't believe I'd be bothered by weight/length but this is my first purchase.

Thanks!

I have not heard the 762RC specifically, but .30 Cal cans do a great job on smaller calibers. To my ear a lot of them sound better than their dedicated 556 models.

I wouldn't and don't own a 5.56 suppressor. 7.62 suppressors aren't any heaver (some are lighter) and suppress just as well as the 5.56 suppressors on 5.56 rifles. Where did you hear that a 30 cal suppressor isn't ideal? You might see some numbers that say there is a difference but you won't "hear" any difference.

I'm sure I read it somewhere, could be one of those internet rumors. Logically thinking about it, it seems like it could make sense (smaller bullet, bigger hole, less air "captured" and slowed). To what extent, I really have no idea

I started thinking the 762 when I did some research and found subsonic 556 didn't really exist

If the additional weight and length don't bother you, get the 762 can. It'll work just fine on sub caliber hosts.

I think I might have been convinced to go 762 :)

Now the all important question

Black or FDE?

I have a completely FDE custom AR15, the other two are straight black
