10/22 SBR can.. Warlock 2?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

10/22 SBR can.. Warlock 2?

Post by Tram »

Hey guys-

I'm currently trying to put together the lightest 10/22 SBR I can, and I'm trying to decide if the Warlock 2 is worth the cleaning headaches over something like the Spectre 2 to save 3oz in weight.

I'm planning on running a 4.5 or 5" barrel on the 10/22. I'd like to get the absolute shortest I can and still retain reliability without the can, but plans are to run the can pretty much all the time, but you never know, things change.

Anyway, I'm currently debating between the Warlock 2 and Spectre 2..

Any input? I'm afraid I'll really hate cleaning the baffles. I currently own the Spectre and Sparrow and cleaning them is easy peasy.

I hate dealing with aluminum baffles.
Stainless all the way so I can pin tumble them clean, easy peasy.
As good as the warlock is, I'd pick the specter II all day long over it.

What about the AAC Element? Short-light-SS-quiet.

I would go with the Spectre II.

The weight won't matter on a rifle and you can sue all the harsh crap to clean it.

K baffles are harder to remove when dirty than the CTA baffles in the Spectre II.

I have both a K and a CTA stack and the CTA design is better for removal and cleaning.

Well, I read somewhere that turned me off of AAC products a few years ago. I don't remember what I read, just what I made a mental note - "Those guys don't get my money."

That and the Spectre II, which it will be imperceptibly so, seems to be quieter than the Spectre. :)

SilencerCo/SWR used to upgrade the Spectre to the Spectre II for a fee (just a baffle stack and end cap swap for them)

I prefer the II's. They have a lower tone that sound more quiet to my ear (and others I have shot them with).

I almost turned my original Spectre in, but kept it and bought a Sparrow.

Now it looks like I'm getting the Spectre 2 as well. ;)

I like the CTA baffles but I'm not a huge fan of the looks of of the end cap.

The Spectre II is the best can around I think.

FROM SILENCER SHOP:

We have a limited number of the SilencerCo Spectre 2 that we will offer for $99 when you purchase the SilencerCo Harvester or the SilencerCo Specwar 7.62 silencers. This is a smoking hot deal and will not be around for very long. Just click the checkbox on the Harvester or Specwar page to add your Spectre 2 for $99.

Heck get the Specter II and get you a .30 caliber suppressor - for a later project ;)

I built a 10-22 SBR with a 5 1/2" Charger barrel and run a Spectre, a Spectre II and a Kodiak TL on it. The original Spectre is real hard to beat and may be my favorite of the 3. That's what she's wearing in this pic.......

I think I'll throw my original Spectre on the SBR and then pick up a new can for duty on other rifles. ;)

Same advice goes for a .22 rifle as for a .22 pistol: friends don't let friends buy aluminum cans. I wish there had been good SS or Ti choices on the market when I started buying .22 silencers. The wealth of them available now makes aluminum silencers totally obsolete IMO. With cans like the Element there's barely even a weight cost associated with choosing the better material.

Others have commented on the choice of can for you. From my experience, I've found a 4" barrel would not cycle reliably without a can, while 4.5" will. Both barrels were cut-down factory 10/22 barrels.

And as noted by others, I wouldn't worry about a couple of extra ounces on the can used on a rifle. I regularly run a 12" .45 SMG can on my 10/22 SBR, and the extra weight isn't a problem. Although more recently I've been having fun with a factory stock, inletted to fit the can.

I bought the Warlock II first, Ended up getting the SpectreII just recently. Wished I had spent the little extra $ and got the SpectreII originally. Probably get a second SpectreII for the 10-22 Gatling gun I am building.
